Ruger American Predator Gen 2

Good morning,
I purchased a RAP Gen 2 recently and it has a factory muzzle brake on it. It was my ignorance for not doing my homework on muzzle brakes and little did I know the muzzle blast would affect other shooters on the firing line. So far no one has cussed me out for having the thing but in reading opinions on the internet it seems these things are hated by a lot of shooters while some use them on all of their guns. I am thinking of replacing it with a flash suppressor or maybe just a barrel nut if I can find one. Now that I have shot with one I like it but I want to be respectful to other shooters and their hearing and safety. Not sure where I can purchase a barrel nut for this rifle, surely someone makes one. I know I can find a flash suppressor, that would work as well.
What if any suggestions do you have?

If it bothers you then certainly take it off. Maybe think about getting a silencer. They are so much more enjoyable to shoot. However, a rifle with a muzzle break to me isn't any more of an annoyance than the Ar's or full auto AKs or the groups of pistol shooters are that I end up next to at the range. Just keep your muzzle out from under the canopy is possible and out in front of the firing line.

I applaud you for your taking other shooters into consideration. That is rare. and you are to be commended.

I am one who hates them. I will leave the range rather than shoot next to shooter using them especially those with semi's where they rattle 15 to 20 rounds off in succession. I cannot do any precision shooting next to that kind of noise.

At the ranges where I shoot, it is rare, except during deer season, to see anyone with a bolt or lever action rifle. I would say over 95% of the shooter I encounter are shooting semis and are blasters preparing for WWIII.

However, I would never interfere in another shooter's choice of firearms or shooting style as long as they are safe.

PS: I love shooters with suppressors! ;)

Our Club is in the process of moving the range, 100 yard is open now, and the canopy is higher than our old range so it seems to reverberate more. I really do not want to ruin someone else time at the range. I now travel about an hour to get to it and I am sure other shooters do as well. I am going to ask some of the fellow members how they feel. It might be better on my hearing as well.
Thank you

I don’t like them either……and have one on one of my range rifles. Mine is a 90 degree brake that minimizes concussion back to the shooter. I will not set up directly adjacent to another shooter and leave at least one vacant bay between me and another shooter. I think longer barrels help and my brake is on a bolt gun that’s shot slowly, so no rapid fire strings. Now, if someone sets up next to me, knowing I’m shooting a brake, then that’s their affair. Brakes on short barreled AR platforms can be hell on neighboring shooters. I’m told mine’s not bad because the barrel is long enough to be forward of another shooter.

Brakes are not all created equal. I have several, with most being radial brakes from Harrel’s. They are effective, yet don’t have a lot of blast.

They're cheap on Ebay
Nothin special
You can find them in any thread you have

I use brakes on all my specialty pistols. It allows me to see my hits/misses when hunting prairie dogs. When I'm at the range they stay on. There's a point of impact change if they're removed.

If you're hunting with it and don't have a spotter or not interested in seeing hits and misses, take it off. If you didn't have one on your other rifles and okay on the recoil take it off.
