Ruger American Gen II

I admit to having little fondness for the Ruger American Gen I, the only one I had - had problems with feeding, accuracy was ok, not meant to be offensive, it’s just my experience with one rifle. However these Gen 2s might be a lot of rifle for a street price of 600.00 as seen on gunbroker currently. The other thing that they have going for them is the variety of cartridges they are planning to offer, 6.5 Grendel, 6arc, 22 arc, 204, 300 blk, 350 legend, 400 legend, 450 bushmaster and many of the standard cartridges including the ranch version. I’m pretty sure the 223 is using a PMag or can use a PMag. I don’t know if they are using a threaded barrel, don’t know much about them at all but I’m curious if they shoot. Anyone using one? Interested in feedback on the Gen II, accuracy and feeding from the mag?

I can't say for sure about Gen 2 but I have a friend who recently bought a 223 ranch American. I'd assume it was a Gen 2 as your talking about. He's had it less than a month. It takes pmags like you said and is threaded. 16" barrel. He put a timney in it and said it groups 223 superformance 53 vmax easily under an 1". Only ammo he's put through it. I'll get back to you on feeding from the mag but he hasn't said any negatives with feeding just that he's happy it takes ar mags.

They kinda missed it on the stock with all the drop to it for me.
After shooting Ruger’s muzzle break on the AR556MPR, I don’t need anymore of that either.

I have a Gen 1 that is my main coyote calling rifle. Chambered in 22-250 and shoots very respectable groups in its standard form. Serves my needs for a calling rifle quite well.

Looking at this new generation, a 20” barrel on high velocity cartridges like a 204? Not a big fan of that or the price tag. I’d rather spend another $100 and get a Tikka.

I agree on the Tikka part, the route I always go but I am curious about these Gen 2s

Reverse on the previous comments about a friend's Gen 2. It's not, he said he held one today and really liked how it looked/felt fwiw

Saw my first two yesterday. First turn off that would keep me from buying one is the magazine extending below the stock. Instead of the fluted barrel put the money into a better stock design. I agree with nakneker, few bucks more well spent gets you a Tika. The Gen 2 a disco gun designed to sell to a young segment who likes flash . It's a big step backwards from Gen 1 that was a functional hunting rifle. From Ruger, pretty disappointing.

Ruger will fix it. They have purchased Marlin and moved some equipment around and some top gun makers left the production floor. Growing pains plus bean counters.

I may still try one at some point, just to see what I think in person. Curiosity will get the better of me probably. If I see one in a Grendel or Blackout I’m sure I’ll be doomed.

I agree plunk down a few more bucks and get a tikka or a howa. I also think the stock looks terrible but this will be so popular there will be aftermarket stocks. I will say I have needed ruger CS 3 times and it has been top notch. If their product meets my needs I would never hesitate to buy one.

My son has a Gen I Ranch in 223. He complained of the bolt feeling "clunky". I told it will probably smooth out with use. 2 years later still the same. I hope they fixed that with the Gen II.

The reviews I've watched on YouTube seem favorable, like the one shown above. Been thinking about getting a rifle in 7mm-08 and that gen-2 looked interesting. However, I like the Howa action and precision better in a 22-250 I got, and it's in a similar price range and available in 7mm-08, and I think it is made better - action, trigger at least, not sure comparing the two barrels. Like was said, some rifles by the same company seem to a real winner, some not so accurate, same maker - just not as well made.

I never owned a Ruger rifle, but I watched the video. The accuracy was impressive but by the time you replace the bad trigger and poor stock design you will probably be close to a Tikka in cost.

I have and have had several Tikka's and they all shot really well (in the .4 and .5's) out of the box with only a trigger adjustment which is easy to do. On the sporter models, for a nominal cost, I did replace the pistol grip with their vertical pistol grip which made a significant difference in my ability to shoot accurately. The Tikka factory stocks do not flex like that Ruger stock and the factory triggers are very good for a hunting rifle.

I also do not like muzzle brakes since most of my hearing is already gone. I also hate shooting next to guys with them. I just think it's hard to beat a Tikka for a medium-priced rifle.

I handled a new one in 223 the other day and I was really impressed. It seemed like a quality gun all around. I think they are going to sell a lot of them.

I want one in .223...I just bought and setup a new Tikka rifle for hunting so I can't spend right now... I am very interested in the gen 2 that will accept the p mag.... .223 is just a fun little gun to shoot... I only own one Ruger it's an American rimfire in .22... The stocks not great , the bolt sounds like a zipper but boy it shoots outstanding....
