Ruger American .22 20 inch vs 18 inch compact

I have the 20 inch standard American .22 rifle but now I want the shorter compact. It shoots into a dime at 50 yards with subsonic CCIs. Can I expect the same accuracy from the shorter heavier barrel?

Because I don't have a lot of room I was going to sell the standard and get the compact instead. Thanks for looking.

I have the short barrel version of the ruger american rimfire in .22lr and it holds a half inch with cci standered velocity at fifty.... But your milage may vary.... There's no way to tell.... Like all rifles it can be sketchy.... I bought the short barrel version because my friend has one that shoots that well also... I thought of doing the other way and buying the long barrel version also or even a Ruger precision Rimfire , but I know if I do , it won't shoot better and I will also be stuck with it kicking my self.... So I haven't...

If I go for another .22 , i will build a precision 10/22 over time...

Normally longer barrel = better accuracy. Good idea about bolt as you take more time with each round and transfers to larger bores.

Do not sell a good shooter to buy one that may, or may not, be as good. If you have to sell one to afford the other at least try them head to head before selling one.
In my experience the Ruger American Rimfire accracy varies a lot from rifle to rifle, you may sell your good shooting one to find out the one you replaced it with shoots groups twice as large.

BTW welcome to the world of rifle shooting. I like my pistols but for accuracy and fun the rifles get pulled out.
This refers to pistols?

I am never satisfied,so if the shorter barreled rig caught me eye I would give it a whirl . Barrel length won't matter much at all on a factory Ruger rifle ,that bullet only needs to spin once...18" is plenty of barrel .
