There are a lot of comments posted and I am not saying that any of them are wrong but if you want the easiest, simplest way to an accurate 22 sporter then buy the Tikka T1 or the CZ of your choice. How much can be done to my 77/22 to make it more accurate? Or is it simpler to sell it and buy a CZ or Tika? Not getting into benchrest, but want something that shoots groups and not patterns.

As mentioned above you can easily spend $200 - $600 on the 77/22 trying to get it to group good and at the end of the day you still have a rifle worth $600 - $700, so you will be out the money spent on upgrades and likely will still not have a rifle that shoots as good as the Tikka T1 or CZ,
I have had a half-dozen CZ 452 that all grouped well after some bedding, trigger work, etc. I am seeing mixed reports on the CZ457 but more good than bad, they have fixed issues that caused complaints on the 452's. I had an opportunity to handle one of the 457 sporters the other day and was very impressed with the quality of workmanship and the way it handled.
My first choice would be the Tikka T1, I have had two of them and they are amazing out of the box performers at a very reasonable price, both were accurate enough that they give my Cooper 57M JSR a run for the money when it comes to grouping.
