Ruger 17 Hornet Anywhere

Clancy

Silver $$ Contributor
Has anybody seen one? 3 FFLs in my family and I am yet to get one.
I'm curious why there are thousands of savages and probably hundreds of CZs but no Rugers....

If anyone has seen one for sale, could you send me a pm.

Any idea how often Ruger spits out a batch?

Thanks.

Please make it a PM don't want too much competition.

I would've put this under classifieds but I figured it had too many questions tagged on.

Re: Ruger 17 Hornet

No help on finding one but the Chuck Hawks website posted a review of their new Ruger .17 Hornet today. I would post a link but the article is on the subscription side of his website, so if you want to read it you have to pay.

Because of copyright issues I won't paste any of their comments, but I will summarize some of the things they said. They were getting lots of 1/2 inch groups and one as small as 1/4 inch with Hornady factory ammo. Toward the end of the article they commented this was one of the most accurate rifles they had ever reviewed and were impressed. Keep in mind they review only factory rifles.

Hawks does some of the most impartial testing I've ever read, so they list the bad with the good. They didn't care for the tri-color laminate stock, mostly complaining about the green layer of veneer. Totally subjective of course. They also mentioned the trigger is way heavy, although it did break cleanly. They also complained that the action was rough and the barrel is poorly finished. One comment was for an expensive rifle it didn't seem very well finished.

Overall though they give it a positive review.

They are available in Montana and Wyoming. I have one and I have bought and sold 6 others. Gunbroker usually has a couple and the prices aren't crazy anymore.

I have seen on GB and I seem to remember 1 in my safe. Mine is a converted .22H with a Pacnor 3 groove Supermatch barrel 22" long. I had Randy at CPC rework the bolt and fit the prethreaded barrel. I took it out after a little stoning on the trigger and trimming the spring. The bedding is horrible however and it showed in the 3/4" groups, 5 shot. I have a 1 lb Jard trigger for it and I will bed it before it goes back out. The prairie dogs really did not seam to care it only shot 3/4" groups on its maiden voyage. ;D

Since May I have ask the people at the Sidney NE Cabelas store to find me a CZ 17 Hornet varmint rifle . None was available at any of their stores. I dident ask about the Ruger rifle . But I may try one if one became available before a CZ comes in. Good luck, I have had five boxes of ammo, and scope since last December and have since gotten reloading dies, empty brass , bullets, and have power, primers so whenever I get a 17 Hornet rifle, I m ready.

There is one for sale in the Saubier classifieds most of the time. CZ would be my first choice, but I do like the flush 6 round mag that feeds like butter. I am not a huge fan of the CZ mag jutting down. On the other hand the wood they use, would let me look past the mag, and they most all shoot lights out.
