Ruger 10/22 Target Model?

jbpmidas

MR F-T/r
I am considering purchasing one of these rifles. I've been wanting a 10/22 ever since I gave mine to my son for his 6th birthday. This one comes with a hammer forged barrel and a "target" trigger. Anyone have one? What can I expect for accuracy?

I tested a used one about a year ago. With RWS R-50, it shot 3/4 moa at 50 yds. Almost one raggedy hole. Couldn't test it at 100 yds, so don't know if that would hold up. The rifle was set up by the owner with a cheap 3x9x32 scope, without parallax adjustment. There was visible uncorrectable parallax at 50 yds, and I think the rifle might have shot 1/2 moa without parallax.

The R-50 ammo is the most expensive .22 l/r that I had. $18 per 50.

The SK rifle match ammo was almost as good, at less than 1/2 the price. $7.50 per 50, but it is a little prone to short-cycle. This particular rifle felt like it had a very strong action spring. Just an opinion.

There is probably some plinker ammo that would do well, but I didn't have a chance to try any of it.

I liked the balance and feel of the rifle with the laminate stock, and wouldn't mind having one of my own.

I had a 10/22 like the one you are looking for...Nice rifle..I shot club matches with it until we entered an arms race...It evolved into a Volquartson action and trigger,Lilja barrel, and a B&C stock....I still have the magazines....Try the Federal Auto Match...Comes in a 325 round box for about 15 to 18 dollars...Has enough punch to cycle the action....Clean the action about 300 rounds....Barrel 800-1000...Or when you change ammo..LT

I wish I still had mine. An absolute tack driver with SK Subsonic. Cycled just fine and would easily shoot 1/2" at 50 yds. A hoot with a suppressor attached. ;D

Thanks for the replies! I'm looking for 1/2" capable at 50 yards. I really like the feel of the rifle in the gun shop, just can't decide if I want to spend $360+tax on this factory gun or buy a base 10/22 and "customize."

I like mine. it shoots like a dream.

Many of them have failure to eject problems but with a bit of minor work they can be fixed. They are also very sensitive to ammo used. Mine loves Wolf Match. It does pretty well with CCI blazer. Rimfirecentral.com will tell you all you need to know to make it a wonderful rifle.

Mine shoots very well, though with that short barrel it is not a 100 yard gun. Highly recomend upgrading with the Volquartsen hammer, sear and spring kit. made a huge difference in cycling and dependability. This one seems to really like the SK target ammo; shoots about 1/2" at 50 yards routinely.

Jbp, just a reminder that 1/2" at 50 yds is 1 moa. I would take 1 moa at 100yds, but at 50, would look for more. Even one ragged hole at 50 yds may not make 1/2 moa (1/4" center to center), but would definitely make minute of squirrel. Depends on what you want it for.

Jerrschmitt, I only see groups like yours at 20-25 yds. What range were you shooting? At 50 yds, these would all be 1/2 moa or better.

Good thread.

I have a Kimber 82G that will shoot groups like that at 50 with Eley Black and Eley Tenex. Tenex will put 10 into 1/4" at 50 yards. I have shot 3 or more consecutive that would all touch during a match. This 10/22 will have a different purpose.

As much as I liked the 10-22T, I would be very surprised if one could shoot with the 82G. Off your question, I've been shooting my 82G with the iron sights. I'm going to have to break down and put a good scope on it to ever find out what it can do. R-50 is the best so far, 1/2" 5 shot groups at 50 yds on a black bull. I think I'm the weak link, not the rifle. I'll try some Eley Tenex with the scope.

Apologies for getting off the thread, but appreciate the info on Eley and the 82G.

Tom

I would wager a large sum of money that the 10/22T will not shoot with my 82G, but I am not considering the purchase to compete with my 82G.

I would reccomend trying Eley Black first. It's quite a bit more affordable than Tenex and it is close in preformance.

The target was at 25 yards.

Before getting a 17 HM2 rifle I used a tuned up Ruger 10-22 T w/ Burris 6 X AO Target scope for shooting prairie dogs. The rifle was sited in at 60 yards using Winchester PP HP ammo. I had four 10 shot magazines loaded before getting to the p dog town . No problem hitting p dogs at 75 yards. Never had a problem with the semi auto rifle.
