Ruger #1 as a tactical rifle?

I prefer the term 'practical' rifle. I shoot practical/tactical/whatever matches with a bunch of friends here, and though there's a definite trend to use equipment similar to what military snipers use, that's because it works for our application. I don't think any of us are hung-up on being snipers, it's just the challenge of making difficult shots from somewhat awkward positions on mostly steel targets at distance. Besides, it gives us an excuse to build some pretty fine rifles and use the latest & best quality optics to compete.

Since there are always time limits at these matches, and usually multiple shots on multiple targets, any single shot rifle would put the shooter at a real disadvantage, to say the least. For example, one match at a local range has 16"x18" plates every 100yds from 400 to 1400yds (the 1400yd targets are larger). Shooters have 5 minutes to fire 22rds - 2rds on each target. Not much spare time to dink around changing magazines & making scope adjustments. I'd hate to try it with any single shot rifle, bolt or falling block.

Just had a thought. I have an extra Remmy 5r 308. Wanna trade? I always wanted a no. 1. In 45-70 ,though.

Well,

I guess if you were going up against a tribe in the Amazon ,the Ruger #1 would be adequate since they be using blow guns and home made bows and arrows.

LOL

Now , wait a second! Don't beat up the " bow " guys. Remember: they're repeaters in the hands of an expert. Close quarters jungle fight? They'd have your head on a stick!😃😃

Clearly, this is an idea that's doomed to failure. I mean, HOW can you put a tactical bolt knob on a #1? And as we all know, you can't have a true tactical rifle without a custom oversize bolt knob!

I wonder what some the 'wannabe tactical guys have to say about this subject'.... ;D ;D
I would say the "Indians" give it a big thumbs up! The tactical guys would modify it for a 40 round mag. The only original part would be the scope. All ceracoted camo, of course.

Also must have a detachable magazine of at least 30 or more rounds... maybe even belt fed.

And it has to be black or the kids at the local gun store won't be impressed.

And don't forget that you are not allowed to even shoot a tactical rifle without wearing a Chinese made flak jacket, fingerless gloves, thrift store army camo pants, "M" frame sunglasses, and a T-shirt that has some sort of statement regarding 2nd Amendment rights...LOL

Don't forget the hat with the velcro spots so you can attach your patch of the day.

I'm glad to see others picking on the whole 'tactical' thing. Personally, it's lost on me.

You're not in the Army.....
You're not in Law Enforcement...

Why are you dressed like you are?

It is not your thing then. I love shooting cowboy action but will not dress the part at all. Ok blue jeans but that is where I draw the line. As to the tactical gear why not have gear that will help you?

the #1 I shot today was 'tactical' enough to turn a few ground squirrels inside out...

"cususn ya gotta play the part.

A few "tacky cool" guys show up at the club dressed head to toe in black, one wears black face mask! BTW, he's a local plumber.

Its the same before our deer-bear season. I've seen guys there dressed in insulated FO suits, boots and hats....when the temps are in the 60s-70s. Heaven knows you can't sight in a deer rifle in wearing a tee shirt and blue jeans, it just ain't right! ;D
