Rude awakening with a laugh!

First, thank you for your service. You have earned your retirement.

Then there is the fact of you being a single parent and raising three daughters. That is one accomplishment you can always be proud of and especially since it sounds like you did one fine job of it. Hope you had more that one bathroom. For a man, daughters are always special. I love my sons, but my daughters have stolen my heart since the day they were born.

I have some idea of what you have been through. My youngest son was in the Marine Corps and raising three children as a single parent. Not an easy task.

Stand tall Marine. You are a special breed.

There are a lot of things in life that you don't think you can do. You just have to bow you neck, stick your head in there, get your hands dirty and get it done. When it is done, you will look back, smile a little and say
it wasn't that bad. Self satisfaction is a great feeling.

Funny Dad moment!
So, for those oh don't know anything about me, I'm an active duty Marine who has come to the end of my carrier. I will soon retire and relocate back home to my farm in Ohio. I am also a single parent with three daughters (pretty sure God hates me! LOL). All three of my daughters do not remember living in Ohio, however have been there hundreds of times. In preparation for retirement, this summer I moved all three girls to my parents farm so they could get settled. My middle daughter started her senior year up there and that was the big factor for the move. I did not want to screw with her senior year of school.

The part that never dawned on me is the fact that non of my children have ever dealt with Ohio weather. These girls have only known nice warm coastal weather for most of their lives. I bet you can guess where this is going!

So, last week I get a phone call at 7:00 am from my middle (17 yrs old) daughter. The conversation went like this!

Daughter- Dad, there is ice on the windshield and I cant see to drive. (frosted that night)
Dad- Okay, well scrape it off! (scraper was on the back seat, my mom put it in there a few nights before. My mom rocks!)
Daughter- How do I do that?
Dad- Did you start the car and turn on the defrost?
Daughter- What's the defrost?
Dad- For the Love of Christ child! ( Sorry for the blasphemy!)
Daughter- Dad I can't take Jenny ( youngest daughter to school 45 mins early) to school.
Dad- Baby, it will be fine. Start the car, turn on the defrost (with explanation), go back in the house and wait 15 mins. All will be fine!
Call ends!

New call!
Daughter- DAD, IT WORKED!
Dad- Yes baby, I know!
Daughter- How could you send me to Ohio without knowing something so important?
Dad- Sorry, didn't think about that with everything else going on!
Daughter- That's okay dad, I still love you and can't wait until you get here!
Dad- I love you and your sisters very much! Have a great day at school!
End calls.

Sometimes, simple little crises turn into the best part of your day! Pretty sure if this is the worst thing I have to deal with, I'm doing just fine.
I know all are wondering if she is a blonde, but no she is not! LOL
It could be that she could figure it out quite well, but just wanted to talk to Dad ;-)

Oh, well played good Sir! You truly know how to pull at a father's heart strings!!!! However, I have lived with this child since she came home from the hospital. Wish she was that bright! LOL Dont get me wrong, she is smart, but bright is still out with the jury! LOL

4 boys(all grown with families) here. The middle boys go;

Kids:"Dad,the heater stopped working in the *Mustang"?

Me: So what.

Kids: well the defroster don't work either

Me: walk,or take the bus

Kids: how do we fix it?

Me: OK,this is the really easy part. Y'all have to take out the dash, pretty much most of the interior. Then I'll spring for a new, factory heater core and you're gonna figure out how it goes in,put everything else back together and you'll be good as new.

* Bought the oldest a used,5sp '91 Mustang GT for his 16th Bday. Everyone thought I was crazy/ier..... he drove it for 3? years with a cpl scratches,1 very minor speeding ticket(5 over in a school zone, pretty cheap on the cops part?).

He gives the keys to the middle boys, who drive it for 2 years. They did the clutch and heater core, bwahaha.

They give the keys to the youngest, who drove it for two years before buying a new to him car. He'd spent the most time in the mustang.

Car sat for a year, sold it for almost what I paid for it. The guy was doing backflips it ran so good. Bone stock, with regular, but upgraded maintenance/components. Short throw shifter,HP clutch, polite exhaust, that kind of stuff.

Did you ever find all the tools they used? :)

Thank you for your service. Your daughters must be so proud of you.
Sounds like you did a great job raising your daughters.

I'm just waiting, got one boy about to be 16 in less than two weeks, a 12yo girl and a 12yo boy. The driving part is not going to be fun...
