RPR 22 lr Bolt closure

I went to my LGS this week and actually put my hands on a new RPR 22. I was disappointed with the bolt closure. It was so stiff I had to use my palm to close bolt. No way I could stay on target. For you guys that own these rifles, is this normal? Will it loosen up?

I don't own a rpr but I own a Ruger American Rimfire and the bolt is super easy for a factory gun..... Try a few more before committing.... Of course these are factory actions and barrels , please don't try and compare them to high end stuff costing much much more... But no they shouldn't be super stiff...

Ron, I found the same thing to be true with the .22 Ruger Precision Rimfire. I tried the Savage right behind it and found it to be much easier on bolt closure.

I was so excited about this rifle when they came out, as they checked all the boxes on my new rifle wish list.....then the standard Ruger horor/disappointment stories started showing up.
Ok new rifle, give it a bit and they will fix this and give us a nice rifle.....nope....still hear a lots of bad things......
Save your cash , a used Anschutz / Walther / CZ / Savage/ will be a better value and you don't have to throw cash at it to make it shoot.....

Just my opinion

Yeah, I've either already own or have owned all the rifles you mention and I think that is the problem. The RPR isn't in the same class as any of these others. Unless you have experienced a fine bolt lift/close then one wouldn't know the difference. I don't believe a child could have closed the bolt on this particular rifle. I've had CZ 455's that were a little gritty feeling at first but smoothed out quite well in time. I also felt of a stock American rim fire and it didn't feel as bad as the RPR.

I have found most all mid range priced rifles stiff to operate, complete disassembly deburring polishing cleaning required to make match ready.

High end gear made to finer fit and metal finish.

If you have mechanical skills and tools/polishing stones, go for it.
