What is the issues you’re having? It’s a wilson
That’s as good a answer as I have seen yet. Thank you. Just things to take into consideration I don’t have a clue about. It’s why I came hereTo the OP.
I set my Competition barrels back on a regular basis.
It is very easy for me because the way I chamber, it is very easy to set the barrel up in the exact same manner as on the initial chambering job.
It takes me about an hour to set one back. I usually go about .025 the first time just to freshen up the throat.
But, if you are trying to set up a barrel that some else has previously chambered, you have no way of knowing how they set it up, and you might spend considerable time trying to get the darn thing trued up. Or even if the initial chamber is true.
That’s why most will not set back barrels.
Just curious... are you having a problem or trying to fix something? If you brought me a barrel and said "I need a 223 with a 60 freebore" - I'd pull out my Wylde reamer.
That's very generous of you. Good on you, Sir!Send it to me with a 20 dollar bill for return shipping. I'll cut a fresh chamber for ya.
It’s currently 223 wylde. I know, I know, it’s been hashed out over the forums pros, cons, there isn’t a difference vs there is a difference. I just would like to know what it could possibly cost.
He's been having very poor life on his brass so a standing question is what it the cause? A problem with the brass, a problem with the dies or a wylde chamber?A year ago my gunsmith charged me $100.00 to set back and rechamber one of my Savage barrels to clean up the throat area, since the bore was still good and shooting well.
Why not just stick with the wylde chamber, thinking you want to clean up the throat area also and sort of have a fresh chamber. That way it will handle any 223 rem cartridge on the market.. being a wylde chamber.
May just be a bad chamberHe's been having very poor life on his brass so a standing question is what it the cause? A problem with the brass, a problem with the dies or a wylde chamber?
Nothing jumps out as an obvious answer apart from some small base dies he is no longer using.
I never did size and fire any brass with a small base die I had. I only used it to size 3 pieces of brass to compare the 3 different 223 dies I had on hand. He's been having very poor life on his brass so a standing question is what it the cause?
