Rockin’ Some Chucks

The rifle is a 700 action that I trued up, sleeved the bolt and timed. Krieger 4 groove .251 neck .110 freebore, 21 inches long light Palma taper. SAS suppressor that doesn’t show up in the photo. McMillan A3 stock and a NX8 4x32. Loading the 69 gr Lapua Scenar with Rl 26. It shoots pretty good considering the gomer guy who built it. It’s laid down several groups from mid .3xx to .700 at 400 meters. I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to be able to shoot rock chucks at some fairly long ranges with it. One last summer at 700 yards from rim to rim of a canyon. I would burn the barrel off of in a month if I shot it as much as I wanted too. It’s just plain fun to shoot.
Nice shooting - having a clear profile is a huge advantage especially if you have old eyeballs like mine.
I was out yesterday; the field was just cut. 
 But the wind was terrible, 20 to 30 cross winds, swirling and changing directions. 
I should have just packed up and went home but, what the hell, I am here so I just stayed. Around 6:00 PM, I got one at 241 yards with my Browning A Bolt 223 Rem Varmint Stalker, 50 grain Nosler BT. I tried to time the shot for a lull in the wind. That's a long shot for me off the cross sticks, especially in the wind, with the hog standing, little margin for error.
Another appeared same area about 6:30, much larger hog. I missed! I would like to blame it on the wind, but I can't. This was a crawler, the one I got was standing, more difficult shot with any wind. I believe I shot high, at least that's what I called the shot. The old hog came out popped his head out about 1/2 hour later but wouldn't come all the way out. No way am I attempting a head shot in the wind. Going out Monday for after try at this old boy.
Got another one at 7:30, 160 yards at edge of tree line.
