RockChucker ?

Guys,

I've used the same RCBS RockChucker press for 20 years. I have always bee curious about why it cams over at the bottom of the stroke. What is the purpose of it camming over? The other manufactures presses do not do this.


I am thinking about replacing the old press with a new one, well not really replacing it, I need a third bench mounted press..



Which press would you buy if they were all the same price..

Chuck, I have two press also. I have a Lee and a Hornady. My Hornady has the rock over feature too and I am not too crazy about it either. If I were to buy another press it would be a Redding for sure not considering the cost. Bill

I have used a rock chucker for forty years, wouldn't trade it for one of all the others with the exception of the co axel. It is my understanding the cam over is a meant to control pressure on the die and top of the press. I use two RCBS Partner press for light work and one in my range box for loading at the range and always been happy with their performance.

I replaced my 35 year old Rock Chucker press last year with a new Rock Chucker Supreme. The newer press does not cam over at the top like the older press. It has a cast in stop on the toggle assembly. The newer press has a larger opening and stroke to accommodate the longer,300 RUM) series of cases. The newer press has a very poor spent primer collector. RCBS may have changed this in the past year or so. If I had it to do over again, I would look very closely at the Forester Co-Ax press. The Forester has clearance problems with some of the newer dies with micrometer adjustment tops, like the Redding and etc. in the long calibers like the 300 RUM.

The Rokchuker is a good un...I have used em...butt ...dont miss out on the Lyman Orange Crusher...it is a large "O" type press ...lotsa room for big Ultra Mags etc...and the extra room is really nice with the other more common Mags. and 06 length cals....I got mine at a yard sale 25yrs ago for 10$$....just thought it culdnt hurt to try it and turnd out to be one of the best deals evr..I use the Orange Crusher in my reloaing area at home where I usually load most of the big uns.....I use a RCBS Partner press in my range box cause most of the time I'm loadin lil' ones ....but the Partner is one of the best deals out there today ...lots of press for the $$$$.......Roger

Don't forget what RCBS stands for. The original presses were designed for bullet swaging where a UNIFORM pressure is required. That's what the cam-over feature provides.

I don't understand what all the fuss is about??

i would buy another Big Max if they still made em.
If I couldn't find a good used one, then it would be the Forster Co Ax

I agree with cheechako: have used a Rockchucker for a very long time, and am completely satisfied with it. With that in mind, someone always has a better mouse trap, so I'm sure there are others who are happy with what they use. Just proves there is a lot of high quality equipment out there. I would not want to be forced to return to the choices I had in 1960. To say "limited" would be an understatement.

I don't consider the new Chucker to be of the same quality as the old Chucker. I like the Redding Big Boss or UltraMag better than the Chuckers, old or new. The Forster is fine if it appeals to you.
