Robertson new F-Class 'GBF' stock doubt

As a newbie on benchrest, I am wondering if the "rails" at the forend would cut the front bags within a short time?

The "rail legs" at the forend looks like it have sharp corners. Is it enough to cut the leather on the front bags?

I really have no experience with this type of stock, but I am very interested on having one on my next F-Class rifle project.

A photo of the Robertson F-Class "GBF" stock is on: http://www.6mmbr.com/bulletin.html

LR,

The illustrations in the Bulletin are CAD/CAM drawings so the edges appear sharper than on the actual stock. These stocks are pulled from a mold so there is always a bit of a radius on all edges--not much, but enough that cutting/tearing a bag will not be an issue. If you have concern about wear on a cordura bag, you can always wrap teflon stock tape around the edges of the rails and flats.

The bulletin also has links to stock tape vendors.

Moderator, I am trying to open the "big photos" on the 6mmBR Bulletin, of the Robertson F-Class GBR stock, but I am unable to see them.

Do you have an archive with the photos? If yes, could you send me, please?

LRCampos,

the "new" robertson is nothing new!

Richard Franklin's "Lowrider" was introduced about 3-5 years ago.

Check it out.

JB has one I think; I do have one, and it won't cut your bags!!

Moderator, I could retrieve the photo on my temporary internet files. Thank you.

EdwinD, thank you for your info. I am choosing the Robertson because I like the adjustable cheekpiece and buttplate.
But I think Richards makes very fine stocks too!

I received a letter from Ian Robertson. He explains the rails:

"The edges on the stock have about a 1mm radius so they are not that sharp. This is very difficult to mold and is a big step over the flat front."

I decided I will go with the Robertson Mark IV GBF F-Class stock!

Now, if I could decide the colors... ,any help, please?)

LR,

I have four Robertsons, and they are all good looking.

Be a big boy and pick your own color; you will be happy.

Edwin D.

EdwinD, imagine buying a stock you never actually saw it. You never touch it. You don't know anything about color and finish of this stock. Neither if it fits your shooting style or body position.
And the price of it is around U$1.300,00 !

Well, this is exactly my situation...
In my country, there is no Robertson Stock. Not in shops, not in shooters hand. None. Neither McMillan, McGee, HS. Simply put, there is no rifle parts available. Everything has to be imported by the shooter.
And I will pay around 60% of import taxes, plus shipping.

I must not forget to mention that I have to deal with approximately 5 months and some U$150,00 of Import taxes and papers, before have the stock sent to me.

Believe me, this is a big boy decision!

So, it would be nice to see some photos of Robertson stocks and its colors. I have no other way to find out how it looks.

LR,

Ian should have the ability to e-mail you photos of available one, two, and three color combinations.

As I stated previously, I have four of his stocks, AND I never saw them before I ordered.

I am happy with all of the colors, and we all have different tastes.

I do not like the "dixie chicks" or jane fonda, however some people love them.

Edwin D.

Here are photos of the first GBF out of the mold. These just arrived today. This is what Ian calls a "marble" finish. You can pretty much have any color combo you want. Or a solid finish, or a fade.

Thank you very much moderator!!!

This stock looks like everything I was expecting. And the rails isn't so narrow as I thought.

I will order one Monday!

I place my order today for a GBF Robertson stock. Ian is a very nice gentleman to deal with.

Now, I just have to control myself for the wait, not from Robertson, but for the export/import papers...).

Thank you Moderator, the photos you posted really helped me!

My gunsmith,Karl Kampfeld)received my Robertson GBF stock yesterday and sent me some photos.

I loved it! It was a little trick to decide which color to go. So I just sent him a picture of green McMillan stock I liked, posted on this site) and asked to make a marble/granite effect with the greens tones.

I also asked for a light texture on the pistol grip. Where I shoot is very hot so it will help keep my hands grip.

Now I am waiting for the action,Stiller Predator) and barrel,Krieger) to have it assembled.

Thank you Moderator and all the fellows here for the help. It is no easy thing to import a rifle, but I am sure I will like it when finished.

here are some photos of it:

LRCampos: Sometimes I think we forget how good we've got it here in the USA, where even a small town like mine has three or four decent gunshops with a good selection. Good stuff like RCBS, Nosler, Remington and Leupold can be found even at our local Wal Mart. There's no problem calling up McMillan or Krieger or Grafs or Haydon and ordering exactly what is needed/wanted.

You're to be congratulated for pursuing the shooting sports despite the difficulties you encounter just obtaining basic parts.

Regards, Guy

Thank you M700 to understand and your kind words!

I forgot to tell that we have to pay around U$400,00 per year to have all the permits to own and shoot guns. Plus every 3 years a psychological complete evaluation.
And the "best" part of all: every year we have to revalidate our Shooter Certificate issued by Brazilian Army which includes a personal verification by a Brazilian Army Official of all guns at my home!

But despite all of this, I just love to shoot!

I will try next year, when I travel to US to bring my custom rifle, to participate on a rifle match in US.

You guys really lives on the shooting paradise...!

I was dead set on a laminate wood stock for my F-class rifle, until I read this post. I can't get over how cool that your stock looks LR CAMPOS. That's awesome. How much would a fella have to shell out for one of these babies.

Hi Flybuster!

The GBF is around U$800,00. Not cheap, but it already comes with McGee International Adjustable Cheekpiece and 3 Way Adjustable Buttplate.
The color scheme is standard, you may choose the "granite" like mine, plain color, mix of plain color and granite etc.

I ask Ian,Robertson) to install a rail at the forend,it will not interfere with sandbags and will allow me to use a bipod) and put light texture on pistol grip.

The delivery was about 3 months since I finished the order.

Get in touch with him and I am sure you will buy one.
