RL15 in 6mmBR

Hi
Anybody got any load info on RL15 in 6mm BR I've just picked up a tub to try, I shoot 105 Amax and 87 Vmax out of an RPA Interceptor with a 26" PacNor barrel :)
Any help gratefully received
best regards

The upper node for the 107 is usually right around 30 grains...Mine is between 30.3 and 30.6. Then the next lower node is about 1.2 grains below that....

Ooooo... try the 80 grain Berger starting at 31 and working up. You should find the upper node right at 32. Then try 1.2 grains below that.

If it's below 80 degrees F, my 1K load with the 105 VLD's is 31.1gr of RL15 (cci 450 primer). Anything hotter (up to about 90 ~ 95 deg F), then I back it down to to 30.8. I was very close to the same charge when I tried the 107's.

These loads are HOT, but safe in my rifle. Don't start anywhere close the that... work up safely.

The first thing I'd do is find the max load for YOUR rifle, then simply stay below that in your testing. Start at 29gr and slowly work up. Some guys run into pressure at 29.5 gr in 6BR's. There are a lot of variables that effect where your max will be.

If you find a load that shoots well, but is running hot, make sure you test the load the way the gun will be used. hopefully this will clarify what I mean: I found that I could SAFELY run 31.3gr of RL15 with the 105's, and it was very accurate at 300yds). However, when I ran 17 rounds down the tube within about 6 or 7 minutes (simulating 1k BR match), about half way through the string the bolt started sticking at the top (extraction). As things were heating up, that load went from borderline to too hot. reducing it to 31.1 fixed that problem, but like noted above, if the temp goes up past 85 or so, my 31.1 load is too hot as well. That's one of the reasons I don't like RL15, but I continue to use it :)

It's a great powder for ringing velocity out of the little 6br for the heavy bullets.

thanks queen_stick that's a good bit of info I've heard its a dirty powder do you find this,And as i live in the north east of the UK the temp is never very warm but I will keep an eye on barrel temps
thanks again :)

Yes I did. Make sure you keep up with your cleaning, and make sure each cleaning session is actually getting the carbon out.

I guess that's true with anything, but in all 3 of my 6mm's, RL15 will create a carbon ring in the throat quicker than any other powder I tried.
