RL-25-vs-RL-26

I've contemplated buying QL in the past but shied away realizing that I would get lost chasing useless questions. It's not like I don't have enough to do already.

Pretty convenient though when you really need to know something though. Still may do it shortly.

Thanks Fredo! Still looking like I will shoot N165 or N160 for now and then there's jug of H1000 is still sitting setting in the cabinet also.

Russ, Let us know how long that barrel lasts please if you stick with the RL26.

Yes, this is direct from my QL, upgraded to Version 3.6

Looking at my notes someone posted that Reloader 26 had a Heat of Explosion of 3397. That is a long long way from 3905. Also R33 was posted as 2670 which is way way down there below Retumbo.

From Alliant Powders: "Reloader 26 is definitely slower burning than Reloader 25, so there shouldn't be any confusion there either". Reloader 26 is designed for use in big cases.

In my testing with a 7SAUM and 168 LRAB RL26 has the same burn rate as H4831 ( tested side by side with Oehler 43 ) but with more energy / velocity. In this rifle it is the most linear powder I have ever used.

In my mind , powder density should NOT factor in!!! NOBODY, ANYWHERE loads in load density....they load in grains. It is a unit of measurment.....one that EVERYBODY uses. If you take xx.x grains of rl25 and rl 26, put them in IDENTICAL cases with IDENTICAL primers and bullets, the one that produces faster velocity should be identified as the "fastest" powder, correct?

And NOBODY can convince me that RL 22 and RL 25 are the same.

Load density comes into play when measuring fill ratio. A fill ratio of 90% or more is what I strive for. I have had to many loads in the mid to high 80% that were too inconsistent. Load density is a size, not a weight measurement. Fills the case better.

How i see this point, rl26 and rl17 are powders of the same design
Due to the impregnated retardation they have a longer Pressure curve ( they push for longer duration ,hence more velocity) rl17 comparison to 4350 has same result, the powder can be slow in burn rate and push for longer
IMHO

Bingo.

The most important part of the burn rate IMO is where 95% of the burn takes place which is shown by the green line. Anything below 10" with a high heat of explosion combined will be hard on the throat. as you can see RL 25 and 26 are almost identical except in fill ratio where in this case RL26 is better because it is not compressed.

Maybe something didn't transmogrify? I can not get anything other than the red line of thumbnail - what does the black line represent? I can see two more graphs but can't get them to take ctr stage on my Android.

Black line where? In the bottom graph the pmax and z1 are one line. Is this what you are asking about?
