RIP Stephen Hawking...

What is it with the obsession over physicists and their belief in God? If I need a heart transplant I'll go to a cardiologist, if I need to go to court I'll consult a lawyer, and if I need a rifle built I'll go to a gunsmith. What a physicist thinks about any of those issues is of no consequence to me because their expertise isn't in those areas. So why would I put all of my theological faith into their hands? His belief in God, or lack thereof, has no influence on my belief in God.

He was a brilliant man that made historic contributions to science. I have no problem simultaneously admiring him and disagreeing with his politics and faith. There's no need to hate on the guy for differing views. I don't even see eye to eye on faith with my best friend, he doesn't care that I go to church, and I've never thought twice about him staying home. Afterward we'll go fishing and have a beer together all the same

I have been a fan of science my whole life, and greatly appreciate Hawking's abilities. There is a common denominator among some of the elite scientists and that is arrogance! They want to attach a formula to everything claiming to want to understand it but ultimately through ego wanting to control it.We have fooled around with the very forces of creation of the universe in fusion and fission.Eventually man's irresponsibility will bite us in the ass on this.Much to the non acceptance of many a scientist there is a beginning at which math formulas fail to explain and FAITH takes over.

I've always been a fan of his rifles. A true pioneer

Huh, what you choose to delete and not to delete is disappointing to say the least.

I truly, TRULY do not care at this point what your feelings are. I'm perfectly fine with going back to "delete anything that is not *directly* shooting related" policy. That really seems to be the only policy that keeps the ridiculously biased trolling on this site down.

99.999% of the users on this site are here to talk shooting and learn about shooting. .001% are here because they have nothing better to do than [cause conflict or derail threads] and are generally the most vocal on just about any non-shooting thread. I'm worried about managing the site for the former, and the latter can take a hike as far as I'm concerned.

I run the site. I own the site. I have dedicated over 45,000 man-hours to this site since 2004. I am getting tired of spending an extra couple HOURs a day policing stuff, having to delete hostile, snide, or insulting remarks made by grown men who should know better. Because of the activities of a very few, some good threads are derailed, and the fruitful discussion of the vast majority suffers. That needs to change.

Message to those who troll, insult, confront other members with hostility, and/or challenge the Admins -- we are moving towards a zero tolerance policy. We have close to 40,000 Forum members now. That means any individual represents a mere .0025% of the Forum membership. Think about that -- would I get rid of .0025% of the membership to avoid multiple interventions and warnings? Absolutely. Message to guys who think they can continue to troll, insult others, and start fights. Prepare to be banned. Not just a warning -- it will be a permanent ban, with no discussion. Out. Finished. Done. Gone. Forever.

I am working out the standards by which we will attempt to eliminate the bad apples in the months ahead. We already have 50 on a watch list. The number may grow. I could probably eliminate 90% of the problems by banning 100 members, 0.25% of the Forum. The bottom line is that we do not need or want individuals who harm the experience for the vast majority of users.
