Rings -- Talley vs. Ruger (and Service)

Actually, the difference between a small(er) company and a big one. I am setting up scopes and mounts on a Pre-64 Model 70 in 300 H&H and a new Ruger Alaskan Carbine in 35 Whelen.
I ordered rings and mounts for the M70 from Talley about six months ago. I forgot to tell them it was the long magnum mounts. I went to my gunsmith last Monday to get both rifles set up. He tells me the Talley mounts are for a standard M70. I called them, and they said to send them back for exchange. I Priority Mailed them that afternoon. This morning I got an Email from Talley telling me the Magnum mounts went out Priority Mail went out this morning. No charge.

Now, on to Ruger and the 35 Whelen. It was a Lipsey's Special. They put the wrong rings in the box. They are for a #1 single shot. I called them last Tuesday, and was promptly routed to five different customer service employees in rotation. The last one finally told me "too bad, what do you want us to do...". My gunsmith had a set of the proper ones, $80, which were so out of round they had to be lapped before a scope would fit and bore sight close enough to use. One hundred and seventy dollars later the Whelen will zero at 100 yards.

I do not see me ordering a new firearm from Ruger ever again. Talley, I have two other Pre-64's that need mounts and rings.
