Ring size

Hey guys I may be in the wrong forum to ask this simple question to you experts!! But I am putting a competition night force on a br rifle. It currently has 20 moa risers on the rifle. My question is on the ring height should I get medium rings? Or take off the blocks n get high rings. Thanks

When you say--risers and blocks -- are you referring to the bases ?

the rifle already has 20 moa riser with the picatiny mount ribs on the top of them im not sure how to size the rings. i dont want it to high correct?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'blocks'. The Picatinny rail is one piece with no MOA- up to 30MOA (more?). That is just one piece with the elevation (moa) integral with the rail. I don't understand your question. Unless you are questioning clearance of the scope to the barrel?

My experience ( and much that I have read) has always said to mount the scope as close as possible to the barrel. There is a lot written about this and keeping the line of sight thru the scope as close as practical to the line thru the bore. For my own use I have always wanted to get my cheek firmly against the stock. I made an error with mounts and have a 45X Leupold too high and I find it horrible to keep the eye relief (which is a very short band with this scope) anything close to comfortable. I am changing it now for lower mounts.
There is lots written about scope height mounting. I also found the charts for figuring out mount heights vs objective lens size to be confusing.

It is correct to have the scope mounted as close as possible, without touching..
Do what you need to do to get it that way....
