Ring removal

What is the best way to loosen dovetail rings that are tight on the dovetail. Obviously after loosening the screws. With scope still attached.

I put a dab of lube ( Kroil ) on the base then used a piece of wood (like a paint stick) and a small hammer and tapped them off the end of the base......

Rick
I should have said with scope still attached. I have a spare scope set up to replace in case I have a scope go bad.

Thanks, I will have to locate some small shims.
Metal banding works. Needs to be hardened. Feeler gauge? Oh, and it'll help a lot to have a 90° bend or handle on the shim of sorts. I made a nice set and they aren't where they're supposed to stay but I'll post a pic when they turn up. Might be in my match gear

Well, my nice set is MIA but I found this one while looking for them. It'll get the job done and show the premise. Screw goes in backward pressing against the shim in the slot. Very simple. I don't need them often anymore but I really want to find my good set. They are THE tool for the job when you need them.

I plan to make a few sets of these if anyone is interested. I can't remember who made them several years back. It wasn't my idea but everybody with a davidson rail needs a set. No idea on price other than they'll be pretty cheap.
