ring height ?

I have custom 700 with 1.350 action diameter and a 1.250 straight barrel does anyone know off hand what the shortest ring height I can use with a 56.mm Nightforce

Leupold QRW medium worked for mine. Low would be too low. Other manufacturers may have different heights. Leupold's medium may not be the same as Warne's or Burris' medium.

I had to use the xtra high NF rings similar set up. I was able to take the whole rifle into the local sportsmans and try before the buy.

The type of base mount that is used will make a big difference. If the very low and thin Weaver bases (that cost less than $10) high or extra high will be needed. If, on the other hand a one piece picatinny, like the Bat's, that are high and thick, then I find the mediums to work fine with my NF BR 56mm's and straight taper barrels.

I made a silhouette profile of my NF BR's out of heavy cardboard and when needing to decide on the ring heighth it works everytime for me. Put the rifle in a padded vice, base mount installed, and hold the cardboard silhouette above the base mount. Easy to take a measurement for the required clearance of the objective bell and the barrel. Works for me.

Good point that I forgot to mention, I use Farrell raised bases.
