Rimfire barrel life

I purchased a Model 17 S&W Revolver in 1969. Shot bullseye competition with it for twenty years, shot hunter's pistol silouette with it for about 10 years, hunted with it and did a lot of plinking in between shooting competition. Bottom line, I was shooting 5000 to 6000 rounds a year out of it. I would buy my 22 ammo by the cases and would go through a case a year. I estimate that I've shot at least 80,000 round through the revolver and I'm still shooting it today and have noticed no decline in accuracy.

I've been very careful cleaning the bore since it must be cleaned from the muzzle and only clean it a couple times a year.

From an old rimfire benchrest shooter I talked to the answer was, yes you can wear one out, usually around 100,000 rounds, and he had worn out a few.

that's a lot of shooting
