Riihimaki rebarrel question.

I have a 222 Riihimaki with sewer pipe barrel that actually shoots pretty decent 3/4 to 1 inch at 100.

I have a vixen 222 barrel that has some minor pitting in the bore but otherwise the bore looks either new or has seen very few rounds.

Questions, is the barrel tenon the same on both rifles? The contour of the Rihimaki barrel is thinner on the chamber end vs the vixen barrel and the Rihimaki also has a cut on the tenon for extractor clearance.

Would it be worth it to have a smith fit the vixen barrel onto the Riihmaki being I dont need to buy a barrel.

Suggestions?

It’s been a really long time since I’ve done a Riihimaki but if I recall they are the same. But I have seen at least 2 different back ends on L461’s but they were still interchangeable. I think the last one I did I just flat breached it. You can have your barrel contour duplicated by most all of the major barrel makers and a new one installed. Which wile the most expensive would get you the best barrel of you’re going to keep it.

Sounds like you are trying to fix something that isn't broken!

I've done one L461 and two L46 actions.

I don't recall the metric thread pitch but my lathe
didn't have the gears for this pitch.

Many are using 16 TPI----which worked well on
the L46 actions.

The pitch difference stack-up wouldn't allow the action
to screw all the way up with 16 TPI on the L461 and a
machinist friend did his magic to allow full threading.

The L461 shoulder made good contact and the rifle
produced very good hunting accuracy.

So you want to remove a 3/4 - 1 inch barrel and replace with a barrel that has some minor pitting? What is the purpose of this barrel/gun going to be. How does this "new"barrel" shoot on the Vixen? Sounds like you need 2 new barrels. Sell one of the guns and used the money to put a good barrel on the other. I don't mean good used. Put a Hart, Shilen, or one of the cut rifled barrel on it, take care of it and it will last you a lifetime!
