Right Calipers

Just make sure you verify the readings on a set of standards.

There's only a couple of guys that use digital calipers in the shop I work at. They got them to be lazy and not have to convert the prints from metric to SAE.
The majority of us use dial calipers and do the conversion.

Have extra batteries on hand.
A battery going dead can give you wonky readings.
 
OK, so I assumed I had a "real" Mitutoyo caliper and after watching the You Tube video I found out I don't (yes, I bought them from Amazon - mistake obviously). What are you guy's recommendations for sourcing the real deal?

Typically best prices around for that model is Global Test Supply.

 
Looks almost identical to my $25 Amazon Neiko which, for hand-chaining to the nearest half-mil, is overkill. ;-)
If I want to get fancy, I break out my dial B&S ... or B&S mike, which goes to a tenth.

It's what I use at work as well.

Ignore the 4th place ( tenths ) because it doesn't matter with this stuff.
