riflescope or spotting scope first?

I've got most of the stuff to put together a 6mmbr. I need a scope and I also need to upgrade my spotting scope. I think that I will buy an 8x32-56BR Nightforce and forget about the spotting scope for now. How far should I be able to see 6mm holes in a target on a so-so day with the Nightforce? Black and white? Seems like the Lightforce would be as good as most, better than some, medium price scopes,$1000-$1200) that I am thinking of getting. My interest is in varmit hunting and an occasional silhoutte match. I have a 10twist bbl so that precludes really serious long range stuff with the heavier bullets. I plan to concentrate on 70-87gr bullets. JimDee

Forget the 32, get the 42

If this is a bench setup, and you need to see holes in paper at extended distances, the 42 is the only way to go.

in white paper, you will see 6mm holes at 500yd easily without nasty mirage, and furter in perfect conditions. Seeing in black will depend more on YOUR eyes IMO.

I wish one of the large manufacturers like Nikon or Leupold would come out with a 20-40x power zoom and front-focus objective. We don't need the illuminated reticle on the Nightforce and some of the other features. You would think that a basic scope like that could be sold in the $600 range.

I doubt the $600 range but Premeir Reticles offers extended power Leupolds, some in FFP,for MLR/mildots sys).
I have a couple PR reticled scopes and am happy with them. Reasonable price IMO.

Since mine is for varmits and a little 500 meter silhouette I went with D&B's recommendation: 8x32-56BR. I was hestiate to have 12x as my lowest power. Obviously I am rather new to this long range stuff, a 71 year old rookie. Thanks, JimDee
