Rifle torque??

Ya, the current trend is to build them light and put a really effective muzzle brake on. Well, the brakes sure make them a lot nicer to shoot but they dont do a thing for all that jumping and torque that happens while the bullet is still in the barrel. Thats what harms accuracy. By the time the brake comes into effect the bullet is already out of the barrel. You cant substitute for mass.

What would be a good wide bipod?
A SEB Joy-pod...but, really any of the bipods on the market today. I've had a lot of experience with the Sinclair elevation adjustable bipod (sorta obsolete now). There's nothing like being able to see your bullet arch into the X-ring thru the rifle scope!!.

Interesting thread. I honestly never really noticed any torque on any rifle i shot. I dont know what that is like

The Tikka Tactical, 300wm, with TRG brake does torque up and to the left.

In an unscientific test, I had a friend watch from behind me at the bench, the TRG brake is threaded with a pinch bolt, he reported up and to the left torque reaction, we rotated the brake bit by bit until the torque reaction was near zero, brake was around 20-25 degrees from horizontal.

The rifle is now shot with no precipitable torque reaction, pushing the rifle into the front rest stop and some pressure of the butt , shoulder and trigger finger are the only point of contact.

This yielded a 4.00" 5 shot group at 1038 yards in competition.

Wind the clock ahead 5 years, exact same set up with a different bullet, an 8.00" group at the same distance over 10 shots. The rifle for this outing was in a McMillan A3-5 stock, and shot in competition.
