Rifle suggestions?

I'm planning a rifle build (or buy). I'm wanting something I can start out shooting Br at 600yds and move up to 1,000yds. I really like the 6.5 creedmoor for this, but as I'm new to this whole lr shooting thing I'm open for suggestions, keep in mind I'm not a hunter, I just want to shoot ragged holes in paper. What I have been thinking is a Howa barreled action (#6 bull barrel) from brownell's and a MDT XRS or maybe a KRG Bravo chassis. I would like to try to keep it below $1,000 for the rifle and stock. (Also keep in mind I'm currently in the planning phase and not ready to buy just yet) any suggestions or help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance

The Howa Barreled actions from Brownells is a good start. I got one in .308 and it shoots lights out. If you are on a budget look at the Boyds AT-1 or Hogue full bedded stocks for about $200-250. Save money for a good optic if you plan to shoot past 500 yards. That will be more important than the stock.

I was referring to the Hogue stock that has the aluminum bedding. The AT-1 does need to be bedded if thats what you want.

You need to ask yourself, are you going to be shooting from a bench, from bipod, or holding your rifle on improvised support. The choice of stock will be dictated by your support. Benchrest, F-Class, PRS are very different games.

If you are going to shoot most of the time inside 600 yards (with probably much 200/100), I would do the 6BRA with Lapua brass. This is just a 6mmBR with the shoulder blown forward. Works well, and give you some extra velocity. If you want to shoot varmints also, I like the 22 BR. Depending on your bullet choice may actually be flatter shooting than a 6BR out to 500 yards or so.

As others have said, for 1000 I would go to a 7mm cartridge. We've learned that lesson in F-Class.

If you want a mag-fed gun for PRS type stuff, there are many good options including 6GT, 6XC, 6CM, 6-6.5x47.

How about the Bass Pro Remington 700 ADL in 6.5 CM for $419 to start. This leaves plenty of room for stock and trigger. Then there is front and rear rests to consider, Reloading supplies, scope, etc, etc.

Yes , you could do this rifle then add a Grayboe Renegade stock combined with their M5 bottom metal for $449 from Red Hawk Rifles. I Would add a better trigger as Dick E mentioned.

If you don't reload, then the 6.5 or 6 creedmoor is probably a good choice.

For true BR, you may not be terribly competitive on the calm days when mechanical accuracy is the limiting factor. On bad days when the wind is going all over, you may be pretty competitive if your wind reading is up to the task because pure mechanical accuracy is less of a factor.

Just because you're not competitive doesn't mean you can't have fun and learn to shoot better. A Savage model 12 is worth a look. Lots of aftermarket parts and it'll keep you under your budget once you've bought a stock that matches your chosen competitive discipline. Later on, you'll know better how to upgrade your equipment to become more competitive in your sport.

I will be shooting benchrest with this rifle. I'll primarily be shooting it 600 yards and out

If you watch gunbroker pretty often used savage 12 benchrest models come up for very good deals might look into that.

couple times I’ve even seen proven rifles that had won matches with load data from great shooters included for the New owner.

your equipment list is pretty much a dead on formula for a starter prs rifle
