Rifle Scope Comparisons

Does anyone know of any good way of comparing rifle scopes...Im wanting to build some type of device that will allow me to hold 3 or so scopes all at once and be able to move my eye back and forth from scope to scope...would also like to build some type of target to look at to compare the scope's color correction, brightness, image resolution and field of view...I cant remember where but about 12 yrs ago i read an article about a guy that made some type of poster board with lines and numbers on it with colors that he used to compare and test optics with before he wrote a review on them

in order to compare one needs to know what to look for and then make a determination of the results.

I would suggest going to the optics talk forum @ swfa.com. There are a few individuals over there who test scopes for optical quality (distortion, aberration and many others) and maybe they can help out.

For my scopes I've taken them to the range in a variety of conditions (hot, cold, sunny, overcast, hazy, mirage) and use targets with lines and lettering. I go all through the zoom range. I'm not an expert by any means but I can usually detect percuilars with each scope.

Mine are already mounted on rifles.

I don't know about the device but for a target, you can use something like this 1951 USAF resolution test chart. This is what I use when I collimate submarine periscopes. You can score the resolution very easily so you don't need three scopes at the same time.

here's a link for it

I only have two questions about a scope: 1. Does it hold POI over time. 2. How repeatable are the clicks?
