Rifle id help

Friend of mine sent me a pic of this rifle he got from his grandfather. I am not familiar with it. Can anyone id it or at least point me in the right direction. Also caliber? Thanks for any help.

Not sure that the 1917 Enfield or the P14 were offered with the leaf style sight. Both variants I have encountered had the rear ladder style aperture sight. Other than the rear sight it does resemble a 1917 or P14. And notice the front sight- looks to be a 1903 front sight. Franken gun maybe.

Yeah looks like 1903 with 1917 bolt.

Odd to be sure. There was a gunsmith named Sedgley (sp?)in the Philly area that used to convert 1903's to use the P-series one piece bolts.

ID Jeff here has one of them.

Definitely a hybrid. WWI Springfield Armory action, 1918 Rock Island barrel. The bolt and all the rest appears to be 1917 Enfield with exception of rear sight -- probably after market.
