Rifle crown help

Have a couple old H&R m12 rifles. They both shoot good but one is just really in consistent. It will shoot a tight group every now and then. But not as much as the other. I got my bore scope out and looked at the crown. Big difference in the two. I am no expert but wanted to get some opinions on these pictures of this crown. To me it looks pretty rough thanks.

That looks very rough to me. I am a machinist who has worked on rifle barrels. I think having that rifle re-crowned might help its accuracy. And by the looks of it, if you use a Q-Tip, that crown is definitely going to pull fibers from it...

Yeah it looks really rough compared to the other. But honestly I can’t get it to pull any on a q tip

The crown is not helping anything. Before you re crown it, slug it to see where its at on that front too. You may be better off to get a little more took off than just freshening up the crown.

I doubt it would hurt anything to recrown it... I have known for decades about how important it is to find the right ammo for rimfire but the other day I shot some factory Winchester through a Tikka that shoots half inch three shot groups and it turned that gun into a three inch three shot group gun.... I have never seen a box of ammo so crappy in fifty years of shooting.... I fired the whole box to try and at least salvage the brass... When I got home just out of instinct I rechecked all the torque settings on the action and scope , everything was fine... I then proceeded to clean it and it was full of copper, I think that will be my last box of Winchester anything...
