Rifle Basic Trigger Install questions

I did. They sent one out on Tuesday. Should be here today or tomorrow. They were so quick to offer up a new one, I never really got to troubleshoot anything with them. I'm trying to find out from others if I did something wrong during the installation. It's pretty straight forward, so I doubt it. But it doesn't hurt to double check.

You are right, but the basic concepts are the same. it's the proper adjustment of a trigger I was trying to convey.

Saw this earlier and should have commented. I bought a Rifle Basics for my Savage 3-screw dual port target action. It ended up being thrown away.

Multiple times I tried to adjust it. Multiple times it went off. All the disc playing and following directions in the universe would not get that thing to hold. I finally did get some use out of it at say a 10 oz. setting. Then it WENT OFF on me during a shoot. Not once. I was stupid and hoped. Multiple times.

Gunsmith friend played and played. Unsafe at any setting. Unlike the Savage trigger this thing did not de-cock and fail to fire. It fired.

Took it off. Gave it to the gunsmith and wrote it off as a loss. He tried it in a customers action. Same thing. It went into the "can" and will never threaten anyone again.

I do have one in a Marlin 17 HMR that works well. Maybe some do? Mine did not and it was hideously unsafe at any setting.

I have my SAV2 set at around 4 ounces and it works great most of the time. If i get in a hurry closing the bolt it will release. Once i got use to the difference in triggers and stopped closing the bolt fast i haven't had any more problems.

I have several on "Target" rifles only. I also have a few Jewells, and a few SSS Evolution Triggers. All adjustment areas need a little dab of fingernail polish, even the Accu-Triggers.

I will admit that all may need a fine adjustment that only a file will get the job done. The sear is not a perfectly machined part. But a good smith should be able to get the job done. I will say I am happy with all of mine. The only time I had a misfire issue, I had to replace the sear which took care of the problem.

I had the exact same experience with a SAV-2. Could not be made safe at any pull weight equal to or lighter than the factory trigger it replaced after messing around with it forever.

I received the new trigger on Friday of last week. I installed it and went to the range. Although it is much better than the previous trigger, it still will release the sear if the bolt is slammed shut. However, under normal use, it seems fine. I'm still up in the air about this. For $155, I don't think I should have to sacrifice safety for a better trigger.

Does anyone make a drop in trigger for the Savage target action that doesn't cost me $300 and having to send my rifle in to be timed and trued?

SSS Comp trigger. Can be had at several places other than SSS. Have never personally had serious issues with it like the 1st SAV-2 I tried.

Just one piece of advice, if you fit one to an accutrigger model, the trigger bracket needs to be trimmed for clearance. GO SLOW on the trimming until it will juuuuust allow the thru-bolt to fit in tight. This will ensure the whole assy stays steady and doesn't flop around.

May not fit newer alternate bolt release models.

None of them will feel or act like a good BR trigger.
