Rifle balance ?

Is there a rule of thumb on balancing a rifle when placing it in a front rest?

Im meaning about how far forward the front rest stop should be set as in how far back the front bag is on the forearm?

Its a rimfire if it makes any difference ?

In my experience, being able to slide the rifle farther ahead or pulling it farther back can make nice differences in group sizes.
I created an adjustable forend stop by going to the hardware store and getting a longer bolt threaded the same as the original. Then I cut the bolt head off and used a sliding forend stop that I could tighten down on the rod at whatever distance I wanted to stop the forend.
It was well worth the effort for me on paper.
