Ridiculous Primer Pricing

Pretty sad. First off I wish we could all look out for each other during these times but human nature doesn’t always work that way. I needed some CCI 250s last week so I went to an obscure gun shop I know of, way off the beaten path. He had 6k and let me buy 2k of his CCI250s, price was 36.50 plus tax. It was refreshing, he’s well aware of what components are going for but he has held his price because he believe its the right thing to do. He knows he could sell them for much more. If you go in there wanting to buy it all you’ll probably leave with nothing, he doesn’t care for that. I kinda like that.

Yup. I hope I'm never that desperate..

I dropped in to my local supplier this afternoon and found they had just received a limited supply of, among other things, CCI BR4s for $70; bought two for $75 each including salestax.. I asked my buddy if they were more expensive than before.. He said that because there is no pallet of primers to buy directly from CCI, he has to go to distributors, where his cost is higher, and then to their next-tier-down distributor, and because it's not a freight-carried pallet, he has to buy 'consumer-grade' haz-mat fees on top of higher prices. He told me these cost him about $65 per K.

So $70 is fair and I now have...(oops--I'm not telling; someone will be offended at my perceived gloating).

I'm a lucky man and I wish all of you had supplies like mine.. But I work for some of mine too, offering to trade what is surplus to me for SR primers someone else has surplus. Found 1100 in September for 2K of my surplus LR primers and bought two more K for $120 total, and drove 4 hours to do that.

WOW--four spelling errors corrected.. Must have been sleepy when I posted that.. :-(

Been where many of you are now, in the past. It is a function of the times, you will have to pay up of go with out. Keep searching for fair deals, but if all else fails and your are in need, check out gun shows, or as a last resort Gun Broker. Buy what you believe you will need for now and hopefully better days will come. It probably ain't the time to put up a life time supply. If better days come back, take a lesson from the present. Good luck everyone.

When checked on the availability of many other components, they also are in short supply. The strangest part of all this is; For the past month, I am noticing far more people at the range. Go figure. Saw this the last time around also.

Nothing new, every 4 years. I used this opportunity to move out some old stock I had. I just sold 13,000 Wolf primers to my local gun shop for $20 per 1k. I hope he makes a good profit on them. Keep in mind these local shops can't get anything to sell you. You may think they are getting rich, in fact they are going under...

A shop near me limits primers to 1k of any primer but only 1k total no matter which type. He's got guys who were coming in buying 1k every day and he finally had to put his foot down with a few guys. He knew they had bought more that they'd ever use in a lifetime. A few can ruin it for all.

I have enough srp to last about a year and that's with a prairie dog trip next June. You have to ask yourself, what am I willing to pay? Time will tell.

After the steel shoot at Manatee today my interest in what might be available was peaked. Many talked. I found out.

Our shooting hobby may soon be ending. There are literally NO powder and primer supplies available on my over two hours of internet checking today. I mean nothing a long range comp. shooter can use.
