Rick Jamison ??????

Rick claimed to be the patent holder on the WSM line of cartridges. He sued and threatened sue several manufactures and gunsmiths who made WSM chambered firearms. This left a bad taste in many folks mouth. Some believe their was prior art on these cartridges. It is rumored several of his publishers dropped him over this issue. Maybe he has made so much money off his royalties that he just doesn't need to write anymore.

Some say he won the battle and lost the war.

I thought there had been a resurgence of his writing of late. You might check with the following: Wolf Publishing, Outdoor Life, Field, Stream and Peterson's.
It appears the first amendment does not apply to "Gun Writers" as publishers get paid by their advertisers. There are several gun media folks who have bit the dirt over their opinions.

I don't know it was him but I herd Winchester gave a gun writer a new gun and cartridge to test. He checked and saw they didn't patent it so he did. Made a ton of money and probably slowed down the popularity of the WSM. You would of thought with good Lawyers Winchester would of had enough proof to show it was theirs. I mean you would have to have drawings, reamers, brass and other things that would prove who it belonged to. Matt

Nat,

The First Amendment Right of Free Speech does apply to gun writers. It is just that his FARoFS doesn't apply in this instance.

If you are interested in the issue, you might look up the Alien and Sedition Acts. They had provisions that were straight up violations of the FARoFS. People were fined and jailed for criticizing the president.

I don't want to go into it, but it also interesting..and very sad...how this led to the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions and their ultimate unintended consequence.

Sorry to ramble on....

I remember him doing a hatchet job on the .357 Max/Super Mag. A cartridge designed for silhouette shooting and 180 bullets.....he pushed light bullets as fast as he could and then made a big deal of things that weren't. Pretty much killed a good cartridge. I remember him once writing that velocity was more important than accuracy. And then the WSM thing. I'd never read anything by him again. He's a hack.

My first amendment comment was made "tongue and cheek". Opinions are like rear-ends everyone got one. My comment was directed to "censorship by financial rewards. The story always favors the one paying the freight.

I remember some of the great writers: Jack O'Connor, Bob Hagel, and Ian McMurchey, to name a few.

There are some really great writers and there are some real nimrod's out there.

Rustystud,
According to my dictionary, a nimrod is a great hunter with the origin of the word going all the way back to the old testament.
