Richards Microfit

I am considering to try a benchrest stock from Richards microfit gun stocks.
How good are they, should I consider them or should I stay away from them?

Any info welcome

Thanks

Eddy

And be prepared for a long wait. If you want one, and they do have a real good selection of designs to choose from, order it and 'forgetaboutit'! When it shows up it will be a real surprise. Plan on doing a lot of wood working to get it to where you like it or you might luck out and get a nice one. 50/50 chance. Some come out looking pretty good and others look like they were cut with a chainsaw. Barrel channels offset, holes drilled in the wrong place, colors not like the pictures they show. Just minor stuff like that.;) And did I mention the long wait? Just don't plan on getting it real soon.

Hi Eddy,
It's been a while, and it will be lots longer than that before you get a Microfit stock.
The good news is I heard they changed the chain in the chainsaw :D
Email Russo for a nice stock with great inletting, and all the holes in the right place...

Strike 4 for Richards.

I have a 'Tactical' model on one of my Savages. While I really like the way it feels, now that it's done), it took 18 weeks to get, came about 80% inletted,if that), had the wrong barrel channel cut, and the cut was pretty rough, although not as bad as all the other horror stories out there). Add in the fact that I paid 250 for it and it didnt even have any pillars in it, I woulda been way ahead of the game to spend the extra money and buy one from Stockade, Russo, or Sharpshooter Supply.

I dont know what you're putting the stock on, but I will recommend any of the 3 I just mentioned. I just got a laminate from SSS, and it is 100% inletted, only took 4 weeks, and was final sanded and ready for finish. All I had to do was just about 10 minutes with some 600grit paper and it was ready. What a delight, especially after it took 2 weeks to sand my Richards stock).

That being said, now that it's done I really like it, and they do have alot of great designs. They just need better customer service, and better blades on their saws.

Good luck

And some of the guys have lucked out and got a real nice one. You pays your money and you takes your chances.
The first one I got from them was for a blind mag Savage. Had to send it back because it was cut for a removable mag.
The second one I got showed 'blue' on the website and it was green. When I called them on it they wern't very nice so that was the last time.
Call Joel Russo and get a 'good' stock. Just make sure it isn't 'Pink'. :D People will give you funny looks.
Here's your 'pink' A5L from Joel.
The brown Wildcat Camo is a Richards Micro Fit but Joel has the same design with a 100% better fit.

Hi P.

As stated I'll stay away from Richards'.

Maybe I'll check with Russo. I'm not in a hurry

Thanks again:thumb:

You don't have to 'stay away' from Richards Micro Fit, just be aware of the problems that some of the folks have run into. If you know ahead of time what you might expect, you won't be surprised. They do have a bunch of good designs.;)

What about their stock-blanks, will there also be an extended waiting period?

Does anyone have experience with Richards stock-blanks?

My bud ordered one,I directed him there because he wanted to finish it himself) No where near press fit unless you are using a 12# sledge. It is their thumbhole target,F class) and the barrel channel was for a light weight sporter, the trigger and floor plate are inleted 1/2 below the bottom flat. So that whole area is going to have to be relieved for the BDL bottom metal to work, bolt handle slot looks like it was done with screw driver, It came looking like it was cut using a old wookpecker for a shaper. Tons of rasping need to be done to be able to get at the trigger as the right side is way too wide. I could go on but you get the point. HS or McMill from now on

If you call...you could get lucky like I did and get one already made. I have 12 hours of finish work invested in mine:

I did the finger grooves with my Dremel

I've built a few of their stocks over the years. They are not drop in, they are rough blanks. All of the ones I've done finished up nice.

Has Joel Russo been away for a while, does anyone know. I ordered a few pieces recently and havent heard a word from him in a long time, hasnt replied to any emails I sent.

WHINER"S ????
Russo has more than a few designs in stock...
Even some that are not A-5 MBR's--go figure :D

Bunch of whiners. I have used their stocks (blanks) for years and built over 30 rifles with their stocks.

some guys settle for crummy service and products, and some don't. That's your prerogative. You might think your Yugo is a great car too. But it's small wonder you're angry, after allegedly putting 30 rifles into Richards Microfit stocks. You'd have the same success with 2x4s, but it doesn't make it smart.
