Richard Franklin REM 40-X @ 6 BRX

Friday I shot a Richard Franklin Rem. 40-X cal 6mm BRX that I had not shot in 6 or 7 years. It does not have a 3 inch flat on forearm and I forgot to put the 3 inch accuracy assist plate on the front swivel stud. And I forgot it does not have a Jewell trigger on her and the trigger was horrendous. So the stock was trying to roll on the front rest and I could not squeeze off the trigger smoothly. I remember that when I got this rifle I could shoot better groups with it off of a bipod. 14 twist requires light bullets and the freebore is generous in this chamber. I seated the bullets just enough that I could not pull them with my fingers. I shot 58 V-max and 55 Nos BT's. Old records showed the
58 V-max chrono'ed 3864 with single digit SD and Extreme Spread.
Next step is to put the front 3 inch flat accuracy assist on plus a Jewell trigger from "Great Scott Shooters Supply".

Junebug showing off again. After he removes the eggs from golf tees he takes the golf tee tops off at 100 yards

My thumb hole 40-X with a pair of Junebug's on the cistern at the back porch range

My 40-X alongside Kruzan's Shilen Thumbhole in 221 1/2 cal (yes 221.5). John Kruzan will have to explain the caliber. I have forgotten but I think it may be an alteration of the 221 Fireball

I have played with 58 vmax in 6ppc. They shot very well but not as well or consistsant as custom match bullets. Try some , maybe Barts, EPS, or Roy Hunters. I shoot a pair of 6 BRXS both fast twist with 105 class bullets.

Yes. I am looking for explosive effect these bullets give on eggs at 3800 plus FPS.
I also have a BAT SB dual port wig 8 twist that has vaporized many 800 yd eggs. BRX is closing the gap on the Dasher ad my favorite
Voldoc made this 1400 yard shot on a prarie dog with the BRX and turned around and sold it to me. Shilen 8 twist 105 Hybrid

okay, I have to ask where you picked up the first gun in pics with thumbhole stock? That stock looks very familiar. You didn't happen to pick it up from a guy named Glenn did you? I used to trade guns with him a lot before he passed. We traded so many Richard Franklin built guns back and forth it wasn't even funny. Glenn would have a gun built, new, and if he missed more than 2-3 groundhogs with it, he'd trade it to me because he thought it was jinxed. I'd turn right around and bust pigs with it right and front of him. It would drive him crazy. I had a stock on one just like that, the finish on it drove me crazy, it had all kinds of open pores on it. I re-finished it and it was amazing after I finished up with it. sorry for the long story....Richard built some really kick ass 6br's over the years. I wish I had half of them back!!

Sorry, I don't remember the guys name but I remember the rifle came out of Virginia, maybe West Vir., area

Too funny, I would bet that’s it. It was a 6br back when I had it, and a lighter/shorter barrel. Mainly I remember the stock thou. It’s a sweet looking set up you have. There was a couple guys in the very south part of W.VA he would trade with too. That’s how I ended up with my first benchrest gun. We hunted SWVA a lot

Richard Franklin was a heck of a gunsmith and nice guy to boot. I hope he is still enjoying his retirement.

Of note, Tommy Shurley worked under him for a time and is selling rifles built with the same stock patterns and high quality. Tommy is a heck of a guy too.

Would that have been Glenn Nestor from around Willis VA, had a gun shop in Christiansburg before he got sick?

Have several things I got from him in years past. Good guy and knew where all the groundhogs were in Floyd and Montgomery Counties! He was hunting them with a .224 Weatherby when I hunted some with him the the late 70's early 80's.
