rice as tumbler media?

Hi Chuck,
There's an artical from a guy about ultra sonic
case cleaning.... and he said that he used rice and it works very well but.. it leaves a residue after awhile.

I use corn cob as a cleaning agent, in a "tumbler" not a vibrator unit. My brass comes out looking like new. When I get home from the range I drop all the brass in and let it run till the next day. Clean and bright! ;)Never tried rice. Mike.

yup, rice worked great, still only on the outside) but will leave a residue after awhile, dirty from use)...had to chuck some cases cause they got gunked up inside the shoulders...

Rice is for eating, and it isn't even used for weddings anymore! LOL!
As inexpensive as corn cob media is why would you even want to consider anything else?

I won't use walnut shells, because of the natural oil, and I won't use treated media because that polish left inside the cases when fired will keep lapping your bore everytime you pull the trigger.
The ultrasonic looks like it does a good job both inside and out, but I'm not convinced you need to clean the inside that well. Myself I don't want to fool with all that so I stick with untreated corncob media from Sinclair.

My tumbler will run for 2 or 3 days straight.,I'ts not in the house) Load it up and forget it. About 200 rounds at a time. Corn cob cleans best. No additives! Got walnut but the cob does the best job. When it gets dirty, dump it on the grass or flower bed. Can't even see it.
The brass comes out looking like new! If any brass is tarnished, soak it in vinegar water for a day or so,let it dry and throw it in the tumbler. :D Clean brass is easier on your dies.

If I need to use an additive for corn cob media, I like to use either the Rooster Bright, or Iosso Case Polish. Personally, I have been using the Iosso Liquid Case Cleaner Kit. It will not put a "bright" polish on the brass, but brass is not bright to begin with and how much does it matter what the appearance is as long as the case is clean?? If I need the exterior of the case to shine, I will use either 0000 steel wool or the Krazy Kloth that we carry.

Cordially,
Bob Blaine

Why did I ever read this thread? Now I gotta worry about oil from my walnut media, polishing agents from treated media lapping my bore, & I have to find a very small dental mirror to see if there’s a crud buildup on the inside of my case shoulders.
