Reworking a H&S Precision Stock?

RCE1

Anybody reshaped an H&S Precision stock? I have one that's just a little too high in the comb for me, but the rifle is really shooting great...so I was thinking about reshaping it. I imagine that there's a hard skin over foam, or is it just hollow inside? Would you use epoxy to reapply a hard skin over the interior of the stock, then repaint?

I think it would be a lot easier to put higher scope rings on the gun, or if needed, have some custom bases made to get the scope to the proper height. Or maybe I'm not understanding your problem.
If you choose to cut the stock down, you will need to repair the "shell",structure) of the stock after acheiving the shape you desire by laying up a couple thicknesses of fiberglass cloth/ epoxy, then sand it smoothe. After that, you will have to refinish the stock. IMO, that will be way more work than changing scope height.

I don't think you'll have much luck messing with the stock. The one I have is a PSS and its not really fiberglass but a type of plastic that nothing seems to stick to.

I would use higher rings or sell the stock. Those stocks for some reason bring a premium price.

I think you guys are right. It's not that it's so hard to see through the scope since I do have high mid-height rings on a Picatinny rail, but getting a rod through it is a challenge...it's .20 cal with a 26" barrel and the ProShot rod handle hits the comb, hard). I have to flex the rod to get it over the comb. I should of gotten the benchrest or 40x style, instead. I may still, but the rifle was really shooting great in this new stock.
