It was tough at first for me because of work ethic and habits, give it time and find something else to do. Family, church, hunting, shooting, photography anything but work stay busy and stay happy.I’m approaching retirement. I’ll always be actively doing something, I’m a contractor by trade and I don’t ever see myself not having a project in motion but having said that I’m looking forward to a lighter work load. If I want to go fishing, call coyotes, look for arrowheads it will be nice to have the freedom to do that when I want to do it.
Many of you are retired, you’re experiencing that stage of life now. So my question is what are the pros and cons of retirement. Many would say there are no cons but I’ve seen people in my own life who were not happy in retirement. I’ve seen others who became stagnant and lost their physical and mental sharpness. I’ve also seen the opposite, many who have flourished and seem to enjoy a high degree of peace and satisfaction.
If you were to give your opinion on the pros and cons of retirement what would you offer, what would you advise.
I know everyone has a different set of circumstances, finances, health, everyone’s path is their own but I’m curious what pointers or advice would you offer?
I will always have enough to buy one last bullet! My choice will be to die in a meadow and not in a wet bed.But then on the other foot, how about if you live a long time. Them assisted living places start at about $5000 a month, how much money do you really have.
I didn’t mean to be a downer in this thread about the last days. I just meant there could be a time when it might be best to move to a place for cooked meals, socializing with other people of your age, and some health maintenance.I will always have enough to buy one last bullet! My choice will be to die in a meadow and not in a wet bed.
Brookings, Spent time up there with my brothers fishing on the mighty Chetco. camping on our motorcycles. Don't you think you will miss it? Good luck and be safe.Well folks here is some 'retirement' for y'all: In the last 60 days wife and I said lets go have fun until we cant! I am 65 and sge is 70. She is fit I am not lol.
In order of dominos falling - bought choice F350 King Ranch and 2025 5'er beginning of April. After that, sold motorhome, camp trailer, my house, my truck all overnight for current market value. Hammered 4 sale sign outside of house and next morning had a couple knock on door with checkbook.
In 2 weeks will have our goodies in climate controlled storage and hit the road in a 35ft Rv seeking out the 50-75 deg temperature gradient in conservative rural areas. Have enuf cash in the kitty to not think about it and live well but not extravagant.
I have no faith in our lovely country's financial future so prefer to be mobilized to seek out those pockets of sanity, wherever they might be.
I will be shooting and reloading along the way. Have that figured out so good to go!

Remember when they say “It’s not the destination, it’s the journey.” The journey is much better when you have money!
Im sorry to read this, there is a life better than this, but when you cheat you creator, thats becomes in question. I believe he put me here, and only he gets to decide how i leave here.I will always have enough to buy one last bullet! My choice will be to die in a meadow and not in a wet bed.
AndNo matter what age you retire it is important to keep your wife under 35.
I will dearly miss the Brookings of the past, and its Mediterranean 'banana belt'. climate. But what I will not miss is the plethora of junkies, meth heads, out of state criminals and vagrant dirt bags living in junker motorhomes or tents who have systematically inundated and destroyed our county over the last 4 years.Brookings, Spent time up there with my brothers fishing on the mighty Chetco. camping on our motorcycles. What a nightmare having a young 'un who hasn't yet figured out what she wants out of life and what I like to eat. Mine knows exactly what she wants - the eternal journey! No matter what age you retire it is important to keep your wife under 35.
I believe this is the way God has instructed us to do also.Im sorry to read this, there is a life better than this, but when you cheat you creator, thats becomes in question. I believe he put me here, and only he gets to decide how i leave here.
I look back at the life i lived, and question why he has blessed me the way he has. I cared for my father who died with cancer his last week's suffering and it truly scares mm knowing how he suffered, and the things i may pay for in the end days.
But one thing i cant do, is tell God after the life he has allowed, how he is allowed to take me!
That decision will be his, as I have to believe telling him I dont care for the way he chooses me to leave this life, in the final minutes is not his choice. If pissing myself is what he chooses, just maybe its because of some of the choices i made, and I can't imagine what not allowing him to make me pay my dues for things I chose over what he instructs, he will do when i finally meat him. But one thing is for sure, i will pay for them, and if i take my life from his choice how he takes it, just how will i pay for that as well, when i do meet him?
And we all will meet him, make that last choice Wisely!
