Reticle Reticle Reticle

Hi I am a beginner long range shooter and currently have a 6.5 Creedmoor rifle, but need a scope.

I have been looking at Nightforce ATACR 5-25x56 with either Tremor 3 or MIL-R C546. I don't like the H59 Reticle due to no line above the cross hair.

I have also been looking Vortex Razor HD Gen II 4.5-27x56 EBR-2C. The weight is much higher.

The range I am planning for is from 600 - 1200 meters. More of tactical competition shooting. As I looked in other threads I am 43 yrs old and use glasses. I have not started with reloading as yet.

I have reviewed the following link:

http://precisionrifleblog.com/2015/10/18/best-tactical-scopes-and-reticles/

Any suggestions vs other reticle might be more appropriate for this type of shooting. Does the Tremor or tree reticle have more advantage over standard cross hair.

Thank you.

The advantage of the Horus reticle like Tremor is that you can do holds instead of dialing when shooting multiple targets at different range at a PRS like tactical competition. All those matches run on par time which means you have limited time to engage the targets, usually very little time. So if you dial, you burn time, thus the reason for holding and the advantage of the Horus. Some people don't feel comfortable holding but it's a personal choice and frankly one of "what you are used to".

Thank you for the reply.
I think it is better to get a scope you will train and get comfortable with instead of upgrading later. Than you have to nearly start from scratch again.

Lots of PRS type shooters use a reticle that allows holds, but the Tremor isn't one of the ones you ever see mentioned, in fact you rarely see any of the Horus reticles mentioned, most feel they are too busy. "Like shooting through a fly swatter", and the Tremor even less. That reticle is designed for a system.

Similar but simpler, the Razor Gen II, and he GAP G2 reticle, and some others that are similar christmas trees are more common.

Its a personal choice - I myself don't find the H59 reticle too busy. Part of the resistance to the Horus is the cost as it can add anything from $200 to $600 to the cost of the scope, but from a practical standpoint, I know for a fact at least a few sponsored shooters for Accuracy International use the Horus and they of course do extremely well in matches.

Lets get real 90% of the folks on this site do'nt have this kind of money to spend on theses scopes, we hunt and thats for a couple months not worth is kind off money. Rich

I have the Gen II on my AI it's a nice scope but for some reason I prefer my gen I that's on my other rifle. The tree reticle does has its advantages when holding over and for wind.

You might be surprised how much a large population of the users of this site spend on shooting. When I signed up I never dreamed I'd have one NF scope, much less the four I have on my F-TR rifles, or the Steiner MXi on my "practical" rifle or the Swaros on my hunting rifles.

Over on Snipers Hide there are people who put S&Bs on 22s (My trainer wears an 8-32 Nightforce BR)

What you say may be real, I don't doubt that. But it has nothing to do with what the OP ask about......

The OP inquired about optics options for MR/LR shooting, and never`mentions hunting:

"The range I am planning for is from 600 - 1200 meters. More of tactical competition shooting."

Price is an important factor. I considered other cheaper versions, but if I spend 1-2 years training on a glass that cost $1000-2000 wouldn't really help me in my plan for competition or long range shooting. I would rather invest my time with a functional scope with an appropriate reticle even it might cost me more.

Thank you for all your inputs.

Solon a new scope that is getting excellent reviews is the Athlon Cronus. Detailed thread on Snipers Hide. HD glass, turrets, reticle design, made in Japan, lifetime warranty. $1500. The owner/operators we're previously employed by a large scope company, and are on top of customer service.
