Rethreading barrels fora small shank savage

I am not quite sure where to look for this information. I see quite a few quality low round count barrels for custom actions for sale. My question is do these barrels have enough material on the to turn down and thread for a small shank Savage. Thought it might save a few dollars not having to rechamber for a new caliber. Thanks in advance for any advice on the subject.

Generally, no. At least not without cutting off the tenon and starting over...at which point the savings is substantially less.--Mike Ezell

Are you doing the work yourself or have a "buddy with a lathe"? While it can be more work than a new blank I have rebarreled several projects for myself with takeoffs and been extremely happy...PM if you have suitability or procedure questions...

If you are paying a smith for his time and machines I agree with Mr. Ezell...
