rethreading a remington model 700 for a savage model 110 bolt action rifle

Not if you have enough barrel shank forward of the original threads...

You cannot just turn the threaded portion down and re-thread if that's your question. Remington shanks are 1.062 or 63 depending on the mood of the guy that set it up that day...

Savage shanks,small shank) is 1.055 that's only .007 - .008 smaller. The thread depth on the Remington is far deeper than that.

Most sporter shanks will not be long enough to cut off the entire chamber and rethread, most varmint types will be.

Some guys will just cut off the threaded part and run with it.... I won't do it unless I can get into "clean" rifling. Otherwise getting a perfect chamber is doubtful.

Why rebarrel a used factory barrel,$80.00 or less barrel) when the performance expecation is far out weighed by the cost expectation. You can buy a prethreaded new aftermarket barrel from Pac-Nor, E.R. Shaw, or Shilen and not look back.
