Results of my new Krieger 6 Dasher

Well for those that don't know I had a 7.5 twist Krieger last fall that would not shoot anything but a FB bullet. Not what I wanted I needed it to shoot VLD's
After a talk with the guys at krieger they replaced my barrel with a 8.5 Twist and sent it to Mike Bryant. The barrel arrived last Friday and I managed to get some of the 108 BIB's Loaded up last night and carried it to the range and began to break it in some and work up a load. This time I have started off with naked bullets just feel that maybe Krieger bores are looser but no evidence of this just going by how my last one would not build any pressure.
I began my loads at 34.0 grns of VV 550 and worked up in .3 grn increments and stopped at 35.8 grns. Out of the loads tested today I had one really good load dang 3 shots went into one hole. Now today all testing was done at 100 yds as some trimming needs to be done to shoot 200 and I didn't bring a weed eater.
I used a .264 bushing and CCI 450 primers so I have more playing to do and I have also got here a new set ready to go shoot starting at 36.1 grns and going up to 36.7 grns and a loner shot of 37.0 grns just to see what maybe the velocity will be.
This barrel is longer than my last as well it's a 30" barrel where as my last one was 28". Bullet is seated .015 into the lands as well.
The one group looks nice but I feel I need another 100-150 fps for the Dasher case so I'm still going to find another sweet spot.
Also minus 2 shots not on paper this is all the rnds that's been shot down the tube. The first group of 34.0 grns was 1 shot clean for 5 shots the other 2 shots were sighters on another target, the next group of 3 was 3 shots and cleaned then no more cleaning until I was done. I did have copper in the end of the barrel. I'll work with that some and maybe it'll go away once barrel gets broke in good if not I'll have an inch cut off and re crowned and keep doing this until I don't lay copper in the muzzle end.

Ok here are more results of going on up in powder from yesterday. I also reshot the load from yesterday that drilled 3 shots into 1 hole but today I shot 5 shots. Not near as good. So now I'm going to retest the 36.4 with a tighter neck bushing and see if I can tighten the group up and lower the ES The velocity is where I like to be.
I did shoot 1 shot at 37 grns as stated and vel on it was 3139 fps. I'm sure when the temp goes up into the 90's that shot will be too hot at 75 there were no signs of pressure.
The 36.4 grns I'll work within that at 36.2/36.4 and 36.6 and see what may give there for results.
If nothing satisfactory here I'll work with RL-15 and see what I get there.
I'll keep you guys posted with progress on this until I find a sweet tune.

On the tighter neck bushing, I would like to know if all Vhitavori powders in the same burning range like tighter neck tension than other typical powders like Hogdon do. I know that n133 likes more tension than h322 does.
This would as you go down the rate chart from n130 to n170 comparing to similar powders.

good luck on your testing. Dana

Ok here are more resyults of testing my 6 Dasher using VV-550 powder.
The only change made this go around was the neck bushing I dropped down to a .263 from a .264. I also soht 4 rnds instead of 3 as my usual.
The velocity increase is noticeable same load from yesterday using the .264 bushind avg. 3096 fps and todays avg was 3112 fps an increase of 16 fps the es was still same.

The best group and numbers were 36.2 grns had 3 go into one hole and the forth strayed to 11:00 I'm going to play with that load some more and tweak it on down to see if there is a finer tune then I'll work on seating depths.
Once a seating depth and load is tuned I'll try a different primer to see if this barrel prefers something other than the CCI450m.

If you guys notice the drop in velocity as the powder increase went up in .2 grn increments this is a sign that I'm going to get another pressure spike what it would be I don't know it could jump as little as 30 fps within .2-.5 grns or it could jump as much as over 100 fps. I don't feel I need to play with the pressures in that region so I'm going to work around 36.0-36.2 grns and see what goes.
I still have in order to test RL-15 as well. This will come once I establish a good seating depth right now I'm .015 into the lands.
Also note todays temp is 5 deg warmer and the Barometric pressure is up from yesterday as well as we have a front moving in.

My neck is a .2685 This is a Mike Bryant Reamer my personal reamer is a .268 His freebore was a little less than mine so I went on and used his. I haven't checked a loaded rnd to see what it measures but it should be around .2664.
Some one asked about which bore dia i have I don't know yet but I'll get out my pin guages and check and see what dia it is.

Ok I did some more testing at a temp that is a bit closer to where I'll be shooting at and tried a different powder. This go around I worked with RL-15. My opinion on this powder is it won't shoot good until you get the pressure way on up there. Myself and another shooter worked with it memorial day in my Dasher and his BRX. WE both got same results in all ways. WE reached velocities way above normal and yes it shot well and it also had great numbers doing so over the Chronograph. We actually got over 3300 fps now although we did this and we had good results the down side of it is we trashed about 60 cases doing so. Myself I trashed about 20 cases and he got a good 40.I won't publish the loads we used as I feel personally it won't do anyone any good and it may also be way too much for your actions. I have found though my best load to date using the BIB 108 is going to be around 3000 fps I could not find another accuracy node until I hit 3200 fps and this to is just too hot a load. So I've backed back down and will play with them at the 3000 fps range and see what happens.
I'll also begin testing the Berger 105's this week and see how they do in my new barrel.
The best accuracy on COAL for my rifle and the BIB seemed to be 1.830 this is .035 into the lands using a SP comparator measuring off the ogive. I went down to .015 off and the groups got erratic.

I stopped my target at the 35.7 grn range to show the groups began closing and also above that they got even better but again I stress do not attempt to shoot for this type velocity.

James, my reamer is also marked as a .268" neck, but when I pin gaged the neck it would accept a .2685" pin and wouldn't accept a .2690" pin. I engraved the barrel as to what pin gage it took instead of what the reamer was marked. I don't remember whether the barrel was a .237" or .236" bore.
