My wife's grandfather owned a pair of legally registered Ithaca Auto & Burglar guns. There's a rather complicated back story on these, but suffice it to say that we are going through the process of having the guns transferred to my wife on a Form 5. Hopefully, the transfer process will be completed soon.
While the process of transferring the guns through the BATFE has been challenging and time consuming, we have another issue that may end up being equally challenging. Both of these guns were damaged in a flood (though they seem to still be functional) and are in need of restoration. Properly restored these guns can have significant monetary value - I've seen them sell for over $5K. Therefore, we don't want to trust them to just anyone, and I know that I'm not capable of doing them justice (I know my limitations).
We're willing to have them professionally restored, but so far I haven't had any luck with the shops I've contacted. I started with Turnbull Restorations due to their reputation, but was told they did not restore NFA firearms. I've asked a couple of others with the same response.
So - here's my question. Does anyone know of a reputable restoration shop that can and will restore these firearms and is willing to deal with the issues involved in dealing with NFA firearms? Appreciate any leads you can give me.
