Rest Input

Im new to BR shooting and in the process of having a 6BR built right now. I have done a ton of research on this forum as well as Bencherest Central on rest and need some more info. I will be shooting mainly 100-300 yards with some time at 600 yards with a TMBR stock. I know which rest are the best but what is a good rest to get me by in the $300 and under range. Im spending alot on this build to have the best for the gun so I limited on everything else till I can upgrade. I will not be shooting competition but mainly just shooting with friends at the range. Thanks for the help.

Sinclair Generation 2 Benchrest rest with specific front bag to match your stock, Protektor bags are good.
-or-
Joe Cowan rest ( jcowan@aasdcat) made by the Altoona Career Tech-a trade school (usually there is a waiting list for these)
Also, a good proper fitting (to your stock) rear bag is a must, as well as the proper bag fill and hardness.
K.I.S.S. rules when it comes to front rests, avoid the gadgets (windage tops), speed screws, any point of adjustment allows for possible unwanted movement if components are of poor quality....or....you forget to lock down the adjustment. :-[. Also avoid lightweight rests.
-or-
If you succumb to saving that last $, a Caldwell Rock---base only and a Sinclair top, but you still must do upgrades to the base to get it rock solid, and adapting the odd size threaded stem to the Sinclair top....not sure if it won't end up costing more in the end.

PS: Sinclair International is offering a promo until 3/8 for $25 off orders > $250..this will keep you @ the $300 mark incl. purchase of a good front bag.

The Red one seen in this article: http://www.accurateshooter.com/guns-of-week/gunweek39/ . It's call the Cowan Front Rest. See the paragraph headed: "About the Red Rest" as you scroll down the page. [Joe's actual rest is black, silver, and brass colored. The red one must be a custom job the gentleman in the picture had done.]

You can contact Joe here: cowanhaus@verizon.net . Ask about pricing and delivery time. I paid $230 delivered when I purchased mine. Now I own the John Loh Rest. Don't ask what I paid for that. You're not there yet.
