In 2003 I ordered a 25 rem short mag reamer from PTG. I also ordered a 7remshort mag type s fl bushing die and a 250 savage precision seater. I had the 'smith open the seater with the reamer so all fit. I used several bushings to step down to 25 and turned necks to fit the chamber. All has been well except for donuts and I've finally figured that mess out. I've had the barrel set back at 800 rounds. All continues to work, but,,,,,,,
With nothing else to do tonight I slipped a Sinclair comparator 30 cal hole down over a fired case neck and measured case head to top of the comparator. Doing the same with a resized case shows .025 less!!!! I have always adjusted the die body to give a slight tight bolt close on a reloaded round thinking I had a close fit up there in the neck of the chamber. I had to back the die WAY off the shell holder to finally get a resized case to measure .008 shorter than a fired round. Backing it off more leaves a lot of the case base unsized and the resized case chambers hard.
Does this indicate the rechamber job was too deep? Rifle has always shot fine and I've noticed only rare case head seperations, maybe 3 in nearly 1,000 rounds over 7 years.
