Resizing dimensions and custom dies

So, there are a number of guys that build custom FL dies and they typically ask for either a print of your reamer and/or a few fired pieces of brass from your rifle.

My question is when they do a custom die, what dimensions are they trying to resize the body to? Say you have a .485" OD dimension just below the shoulder. What dimension do they typically want to hit for the custom die? Is it .483" (.001 clearance on both sides) or is it less?

When I talked to Ben Syring at Hornady, he asked me what I was trying to achieve. He made some recommendations on the size of die he would produce once he had measured the fired brass.

The die worked well. I suggest you talk to the guy(s) you want to deal with and get their opinions.
