Resizing .308 to 6.5CM

The case forming die that Paul builds will do exactly what you’re looking to do. His dad is a regular here, and covers sales. You can contact @Uthink Uknow Also the Creedmoor case is a necked down 30TC. You could get a 30TC die for a first stage. This would move the shoulder, then neck down in the Creedmoor die. As others have said, you might need to trim first. The longer 308 case could be hitting something inside your die, causing the crush. Josh also offered a great deal!
You can do a lot with the wildcat shoulder setback dies

308 to 6.5CM? That simply does not make sense

You would do better with 250 Savage brass. Besides there is 6.5CM brass available so why bother in the first place?

Played with this several years ago.

For another reason I had honed the neck on a 6.5 CM full length sizing die so that it just barely if at all resizes the neck. Fired cases come out of it with about a .295 neck. To resize 6.5 CM brass I use it with the expander removed. Then I resize the neck with a Lee collet die.

To convert 308 to 6.5 CM I put the die in the press only screwed in enough that it sizes down the neck just to the original 308 neck/shoulder junction. Then I screw the die in an eighth to a quarter turn at a time, running the case up in and backing it out each time so I'm progressively moving the shoulder, not doing it all at once. Again, this with the expander removed from the die. Paying attention to the case lube is important. Use enough on the neck but keep it off the shoulder.

The result is a formed 6.5 CM case with a neck OD of .295 and an unknown neck thickness. At this point some of the cases, depending on head stamp (for example MEN), will have a big donut such that the mandrel of the Lee collet die won't even go in. So I use a straight .264 chucking reamer (in a lathe but maybe it can be done other ways) to inside-ream the neck and cut away any donut. Then the Lee die sizes the neck down the proper amount and I get some pretty nice brass as a result. Neck thickness always falls within a range that is acceptable to me, and pretty consistent.

I haven't been doing this for a couple of years as I now have lots of 6.5 CM brass.

Thank you and yes he did!

Yep, plus a little experimentation leads to learning. As long as it's safe I think a little "wildcatting" is good for everyone.
As long as it’s your time you are wasting then have at it. Lol I would rather be shooting than forming commonly found brass from other commonly found brass. Lol

308 brass to 6.5 Creedmoor...fairly easy...but I'd just by factory 6.5 Creed brass.
I have taken .308 to 6mm Arc just for fun...but that requires machining the solid head and a new extractor groove machined in...done in a lathe. And 250 pcs of Grendel basic to 6 mm ARC...a .44 " cylinder to 6 mm.
So I heres what I do... move the 308 shoulder back with a 30 degree homemade die and barley size the neck like a .342" neck dia on the fired LC brass ...with a homemade die...or something like a 30 BR body die with a 30 degree shoulder, may work. Then trim to length, champher and deburr...now spray lube and run through your 6.5 Creedmoor finish die. Annealing isn't required and detrimental causing shoulder collapse, on the initial sizing.
Now it will fit your chamber...but ya need to check to see if neck turning or boring is need to get away from the donut with long heavy bullets. Like taking 300 Win Mag to 350 Rem Mag the thick necks may need to be turned, depending on your chamber and how thick the brass is, at the neck shoulder area.
