Resizing 22-250 to 6 Dasher or GT? Help!

Hi Team, embarking on a 6 Dasher or GT... getting setup. (Trying to decide which but it will come down to what I can form.)
We have 2 issues here, supply is VERY unreliable and probably wont get a lot of 6 Dasher / BR / GT brass...
Another issue is I hunt a lot... I also may loose some brass in the field. The issue I have with this, is brass is currently $280 per 100. It's crazy, so looking for a cheap easy alternative brass to form. Was hoping a 22-250 could be sized down then blown out. I have lots of experience forming 22-250 to creedmoor as we simply couldn't get it for the last 12 months... but ZERO experience with GT or dasher. Thanks team, if anyone has a 6 GT or dasher die and wants to see if they can get 10 or so 22-250 pieces of brass to successfuly size (Even if need blowing out) I'm happy to buy you a packet of 22-250 brass in return haha!
Thanks everyone.
Jim

Jim 22-250 brass here at this time is harder to get than Dasher. There is at least one shooter that has had so much trouble finding 22-250 brass he is talking about pulling the barrel and changing to 22 CREED. But if you have 22-250 brass, buy dies for what ever you decide to use and run it through. You might ask here if anyone has done it and see if they were successful or not.

Alpha has 6BR brass in stock for $130 per 100. Get that and just fire form to 6 dasher. Can run mild loads on first firing and still get good accuracy. Could do a false shoulder, but also no problem just jamming the bullets around +.040” and firing away to form brass.

Easier to fireform BR brass than form from 22-250. Brass thickness for the neck would be one issue, I'm guessing.
Yes true, however still 280 per hundred and when I hunt I’ll use 300 plus cases over 2 days and I’m bound to loose heaps. 22-250 is dirt cheap over here, I’m happy to use the BR brass for competition sure but for hunting (I have a second barre for it, I really want a cheaper alternative brass.

Lapua makes 6GT brass and is available some places. If you can’t find someone to ship wherever you are, then I would wait because forming from 22-250 is not the best idea. Nobody would use a chamber reamer in 6 Dasher or 6GT to handle necks that thick.

Maybe start picking our brass up off the ground too ;)

I'll just do it myself and report back because it might just be a good thing. I've just seen it done to a 22-250AI short and looks like it will be fine. Thanks anyway, guess I'm somewhat disappointed there wasn't 1 dasher or GT shooter here that had 1 sacrificial 22-250. God bless. I'll let you know tonight.

i have a 6br and the 22-250 brass but no dasher or 6gt. i have formed 6br out of 308 brass(7.62) but never got it formed enough to fit in my chamber. ill try a 22-250 and see if i can get it to 6br in a little bit. wat r u hunting?

Hey mate thanks!
Dogs/cats/pigs/deer. Lots of them too. Mostly culling. Pigs are out of control here at the moment.

I’d love to hear how you go, I’d imagine the case would be a bit smaller but would blow out fine. Fingers crossed!

hi jim— Id like to be able to form 6br from 308 - 22-250 would be great to. I have tried with 308 in the past and got what seemed to be a good case but never could get the bolt to close on one. Just tried some 22-250 and it didnt go so good. I did find it helps to size in a 7br die first. i think the GT would be better from a 22-250 as the shoulder is alot higher. I will keep trying. let us know how it goes for ya. have a good day. 78FE2ED5-79CC-4077-97BD-FDF7031DE284.jpeg

Oh dear… legend man thanks! Let me know if you have any success… might have to make forming dies for 308 or something… interesting. Im
Truly surprised because it’s such a smaller case than a 308… hmm…

there are people that have the dies or can make them. ill keep working on it

I’ve just heard of the half turn method when you start to hang up, pull out, 1/2 turn the die and hit it in tiny amounts. Probably living a bit as you go? Might try that myself tonight. I found Ppu brass was way better than win or Remington for this as it’s thick forming 6 creed from 243 brass.
