Resize 'Modified Case'?

I use an old Stoney Point tool to help me determine bullet seating depth. That tool apparently is now made by Hornady.

I cannot find a 22 BR modified case. But I can find a 6mm BR modified case. Have anyone ever tried to resize a 6mm to 22 BR modified case? I cannot think of a reason I cannot do that, but thought I'd run that way the forum first................

Thanks.

I took 2 maybe 3 'new' 6 BR Lapua cases, full length sized them, necked them down to 22 caliber, ran them through a body die to make sure they fit in the chamber witn no resistance on bolt closing. Shipped them off to Hornady and had them 'modified' for the Stoney Point,Hornady) tool. Worked slick. Sure beats trying to track down a 'special' tap and trying to find a way to hold them without causing damage to the case trying to drill and tap.
Pay for it once and you've got a 'modified case' for a lifetime.

If your a Do-It-Yourself type of guy, you can make this case. I made my own Tac.20 modified case using a .223 modified case just by running it through the FL Die and then inside neck turn, this can be done with a dremel tool and sandpaper.
Just make the 22br modified case like you would make any other 22br case out of 6br brass. Just remember that u won't be able to move the bullet freely, so you will need a way to remove the brass in the neck to get the .224 bullet to move with ease.

hope this helps...

No reason not to resize a 6BR to a 22BR but to get the same neck size as a modified case you need to use a neck-only die with a larger-than-normal bushing.

The other option would be to find some tool you have laying about that you could use as a mandrel to open the neck up slightly after sizing to 22 bullet diameter.

It's not hard to make up a modified case if you have a drill press. The tap and drill are available from Brownells, but the trick is holding the case properly to get a centered 7 square hole drilled into the case head.

Nice thing about doing it yourself is you always have the tools for later if you lose your one modded case, or want to make up new in another case config or for your shooting buddies.

An excellent point. I think that might be the way to go, order their 6mmBR and resize it for use in the 22 BR rifle. I don't have a drill press, and can't see sending a case off to Hornady to modify my case, so I'll take the easy route.

I have a 6br with a 262 neck, and their normal 6br case would not work. Till I turned it I could not get the bullet to fit right,as in it was too tight). I ended up using a Dremmel cut-off weel and made slits in the neck, and it's been working great!

not the same as a 6br, but the same concept... I have 6.5-284, where the 'modified case' would not fit in the chamber. I turned the outside of the neck, and the case was still tight. I then ran the case through my body sizing die, and it fit right in there. The point of all of this... yes you should be able to use a 6br modified case, and modify that case your self to make the 22br modified case ;)

As far as neck tension... Either ream the neck, or put small cuts down the neck like janderson0 suggested.

If you don't want to buy extra neck bushings or expanders you might try polishing the inside of the case neck with something. I've used steel wool, emory cloth and even a bore brush to make the case neck loose enough for the bullet to move easily. You may even have to turn the neck if you have a tight neck chamber.
