Resale Value

I am getting ready to build probably my last custom rifle. My safe is full. I have most of the popular calibers built. 22 up to a 416 remington. My last one was a tactical 6x47 Lapua. My plans will be the same for this one. Surgeon action, McMillian A5 Krieger barrel, Jewel trigger Sphur rings and a S&B 12-50X56 scope.

The only diiference will be is that it will be chambered for a 6XC for 600 and 1,000 yard shooting. The 6mm barrel should be ariving shortly.

What are your thoughts on the 6XC for resale value? It is somewhat a specialized caliber for a specialized group of shooters.

I don't believe the cartridge (per se) really plays much part in the Re Sale value of a rifle. Most value is in the componants and WHO Smithed it. Most shooters expect/plan on rebarreling immediatly/or very soon after purchase so as long as the bolt face is correct for their needs the chambering doesn't much play into it......... Just my 2 cents.......

l would be more inclined to buy a caliber like this if dies and brass are supplied with the rifle. If so, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.

Really the 6XC is less of an 'oddball' than the 6x47L you say you have!! Dave Tubb has brass with correct headstamp as well as other wholesalers selling Norma headstamped 6XC brass. The 6x47L needs to be fireformed, granted it is an easy do but doesn't have factory headstamped brass available for it. I had my XC first but also built myself a 6x47L later. The XC at least can be made from its parent case the 22/250 whereas there are no options I am aware of to reform something to the Lapua round and have a small primer???

Yah, the 6XC has been around a bit longer than 6x47, which still has no 'factory' brass available though it's obvious to everyone reading this how easy it is to make it from 6.5x47.

(I tried using 6.5x47 brass for 6XC last season, decided the short neck produced wasn't worth the effort & proceeded to form up 100 cases out of Lapua Palma brass with the small rifle primer. Takes a bit of time & patience but the resulting cases weight within 1 grain of the Norma 6XC cases I'd been using before the experiment & get virtually identical results with the same loads.)

Ever since 6XC brass became available from Norma (originally only available thru David Tubb's operations but now available from other outlets) it's been getting more and more acceptance for a variety of disciplines.

Given your description of the items you're using to build a new rifle, it should be easily sold later on even if the buyer wants to change cartridges by adding another barrel as long as you go with a .308-style 'standard' .475" dia. bolt head diameter.

Go for it!

Then after you shoot a couple of hundred rounds and get the itch for something else - just send me an email and I'll take it off your hands ... for an appropriate discount, of course. ;D
